Aims/outcomes / This course explores how young people with autistic spectrum disorders can experience high quality PE with pedagogical approaches that can be developed and adopted by teachers, learning support assistants and other practitioners to increase the quality of their development. The course, its resources and the approaches outlined have been drawn from good practice that has emerged through both special and mainstream schools and from primary through to further education settings.

PMLD Dance

Course title / Developing Dance from Elements through Circle Dancing and Beyond
Course leader / Anne Craddock
Aims/Outcomes / Practitioners to learn and gain more confidence in developing dance for pupils with Complex Needs
Content / This practical course will help you to develop dance for pupils of all ages with Complex Needs. The Course will have a Sensory focus and will develop ideas just touched on during the Elements Course.
The course will include examples of the planning and process involved in introducing age appropriate Dance as an Active Lunchtime Activity for pupils with Severe and Multiple disabilities. Sports Leaders and volunteers from other roles in school may support this activity.
There will be time to more fully develop Proprioceptive Massage and consider how and when this might be useful for your pupils.
Circle Dancing will be developed which can be used where some pupils are seated, some standing and some moving in three circles around the ‘Circle of Friends’ These Circle Dances can be linked to Seasons and Topic based curriculum activities. Both Co-operband and Parachutes will be further explored through these Circle Dances.
Sensory Dance development will be explored and your own unique contributions shared.
