“Given the worldwide disasters that have recently occurred can Administration provide the following:1.Any examples of other large municipalities’ policy responses to disaster response operations that occur outside of their jurisdictions.
2.What are some of the key components of those policies?
3.What are the current procedures for providing disaster relief whether the request is made formally or informally by the other jurisdictions, by the Province of Alberta, the Federal Government or Non-Government Organizations (NGO’s)?
4.What support can the City provide to other jurisdictions that have experienced a natural disaster, i.e. provision of financial support, goods, services, and/or staff?
5.What would be the key elements of a City policy on disaster response?” / Community Svcs.

3.What has been the usage of City-owned facilities by public and separate schools over the last five years, and what has been the usage of community sports groups and other groups of the public and separate school system?
Given the urgent nature of lack of booking space for community and sports groups in schools, we would like this report to return to the Community Services Committee meeting by November 21, 2005.” / Community Svcs.

“In regard to a potential Provincial Police Service and in relation to the province’s commitment to a single-site training facility for municipal police officers, special constables, security guards and private investigators, can Administration in conjunction with Edmonton Police Service provide a response to the following:1.How will the City be assured of the level of training given to these recruits?
2.Is the City interested in applying for this single-site training, given the fact that the Edmonton Police Service and the City already have a great deal of the infrastructure in place i.e. range, track, classrooms, etc.?
3.How will the Edmonton Police Service recruit from this facility – will they send recruited members there or will they recruit from a pool of graduates?
4.Will recruited members be paid employees of the service or will they have to pay a fee for their training?
5.If these people must pay for their training and are not paid while they are there, will we be competing against the RCMP and other agencies that compensate their recruits?
6.What will the Edmonton Police Service be responsible for after these recruits finish at this facility – what “top-up” training will be required?
7.Will this facility take over all of our ongoing training for all current members and recruits, i.e. rifle training?
8.If the province is moving towards a Provincial Police Service, have we been in negotiations or at least dialogue with the stakeholders, i.e. rural municipalities, RCMP and surrounding municipalities?” / Police Commission

“We understand that many of our existing single-pad ice arenas are in need of capital investment due to the poor condition of the building infrastructure. We would request that Community Services Department prepare a report identifying the implications of maintaining or increasing the supply of ice pads by developing larger multi-pad arena facilities and closing older single-pad arenas. This report should include options on how the multi-pad facilities could be accomplished.” / Community Svcs.Due: Jan. 9, 2006

T. Luppino, Edmonton Art Gallery; D. Roper, E.Scharabun, K.Kohut and B.Tracey, Ukrainian Canadian Archives and Museum of Alberta (UCAMA), made presentations and answered the Committee’s questions. Copies of a letter dated October 11, 2005, from K.Kohut, UCAMA, were distributed to Members of the Committee and a copy was filed with the Office of the City Clerk.

R.Caldwell, Planning and Development Department, answered the Committee’s questions.
