WHAT: REVIEWING STAR DATA TO IDENTIFY & TARGET STUDENT GROUPS TO MOVE TO PROFICIENCY
ELA & SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHERS
- PRIOR TO THE MEETING, PULL THE STAR SCREENING REPORT READING (FOR ELA/SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHERS) The first meeting, the counselor will do this step for you; after that it is your responsibility
- DURING THE MEETING, FOR EACH GRADE LEVEL
- IDENTIFY % AND NUMBER OF STUDENTS AT OR ABOVE READING BENCHMARK
- IDENTIFY % AND NUMBER OF STUDENTS ON WATCH FOR READING
- IDENTIFY % AND NUMBER OF STUDENTS IN INTERVETION FOR READING
- IDENTIFY % AND NUMBER OF STUDENTS IN URGENT INTERVENTION IN READING
- RECORD IN DATA ANALYSIS LOG
- CROSS CHECK LIST OF STUDENT IN TIER 2 & TIER 3 FOR READING AGAINST THOSE WHO ARE CURRENTLY IDENTIFIED AS INTERVETION & URGENT INTERVENTION; ADJUST GROUPS AS NECESSARY; COMMUNICATE WITH INTERVENTIONIST
- GO TO “ON WATCH” STUDENT LIST. IDENTIFY THE BOTTOM 8 STUDENTS AS THEY ARE LISTED IN THE ON WATCH BLOCK (THOSE CLOSEST TO THE AT/ABOVE BENCHMARK GROUP ON THE REPORT); PULL “NAME THEM & CLAIM THEM” SHEET FOR EACH OF THESE STUDENTS
- DISCUSS AS A GROUP AND DEVELOP A TARGETED, INTENTIONAL PLAN TO BUMP THESE STUDENTS INTO THE AT/ABOVE (PROFICIENT) GROUP. DEVELOP 3 INTENTIONAL, FOCUSED STRATEGIES TO DO THIS. SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHERS TAKE 2 STUDENTS EACH, ELA TEACHERS TAKE 2 STUDENTS EACH.
- DEVELOP INTENTIONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR 2 STUDENTS. IMPLEMENT STRATEGIES. THESE BECOME THE STUDENTS YOU INVEST SIGNIFICANT TIME AND ATTENTION TO EVERY DAY TO BUILD THAT RELATIONSHIP PIECE AS WELL AS TARGET SKILL DEFICITS. IT IS YOUR GOAL TO DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO MOVE THEM INTO PROFICIENCY AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE.
- THESE IDENTIFIED 8 STUDENTS WILL TAKE STAR EVERY 4 WEEKS TO MONITOR FOR GROWTH RELATED TO TARGETED INTERVENTIONS (MS. HUDDLESTON HAS SCHEDULE)
AFTER THE FIRST MEETING, STEP 5 WILL BE AS FOLLOWS:
REVIEW GROWTH REPORT FOR READING FOR EACH GRADE LEVEL; HIGHLIGHT TIER 2 & 3 STUDENTS WITH YELLOW; EXAMINE GROWTH; DISCUSS WHAT’S WORKING, WHAT’S NOT WORKING AND POTENTIAL CHANGES TO CURRENT INTERVENTIONS TO HELP STUDENTS REACH THEIR MAXIMUM LEVEL OF SUCCESS. MOVE STUDENTS OUT/IN AS NECESSARY
REVIEW GROWTH REPORT FOR READING FOR EACH GRADE LEVEL; HIGHLIGHT THE 8 IDENTIFIED STUDENTS FROM THE PREVIOUS MONTH WITH BLUE; EXAMINE GROWTH; DOCUMENT ON THEIR NAME & CLAIM FORM. DISCUSS WHAT’S WORKING, WHAT’S NOT WORKING AND POTENTIAL CHANGES TO CURRENT INTERVETIONS TO HELP STUDENTS REACH THEIR MAXIMUM LEVEL OF SUCCESS.
THEN CONTINUE ON WITH THE REMAINDER OF THE STEPS AS OUTLINED ABOVE.
MATH & SCIENCE TEACHERS

COUNSELOR ROLE
First Meeting:
· Print Screening Report Reading 7th Grade
· Print Screening Report Reading 8th Grade
· Print Screening Report Math 7th Grade
· Print Screening Report Math 8th Grade
(ELA & Social Studies: each teacher gets one copy of 7th reading & 8th reading)
(Math & Science: each teacher gets one copy of 7th math & 8th math)
· Copy Name & Claim Forms (Copy 30 to begin; you will have some left for future meetings)
· Facilitate meetings through the above steps
· Ensure documentation is correct
· Keep a current list of Tier 2/Tier 3 & Name & Claim Students, along with the interventions that are being used for them; update this form monthly & bring copies for team
Subsequent Meetings:
· Provide support to teachers as needed as they pull/print their Screening Reports to bring; each teacher needs to make enough copies for all members of the team of their report
· Print Growth Report Reading 7th Grade
· Print Growth Report Reading 8th Grade
· Print Growth Report Math 7th Grade
· Print Growth Report Math 8th Grade
· Bring Name & Claim Forms
· Facilitate meetings through the above steps
· Ensure documentation is correct
· Keep a current list of Tier 2/Tier 3 & Name & Claim Students, along with the interventions that are being used for them; update this form monthly & bring copies for team
