MafraqOffice Aim
(to be assessed and approved by Hovig, Head of Mafraq Office)
We aim for a proactive culture, however realistically we can foster a calculative culture. We believe in aiming high, optimistically a generative culture is our ambition

Post-crash responses and reporting /
- Share accurate and complete information about incidents with staff members when someone is injured
Input for SOP and Advice
- Staff should be able to tell drivers not to drive fast and not to use their phone while driving
- Break journey after 2 hours and rest, stretch
- Do not put pressure on staff to arrive quickly (even if late). Ask them to leave earlier
- Plan your trip in advance and take into consideration the road / traffic situation
- Wear seatbelts at all time regardless of position in vehicle
- Encourage all to park before talking on the phone
- Complete vehicle check (tire air pressure, brakes, belts etc.) every long trip or every week
- Instruct drivers not to start driving until all passengers have put on their seat belts
- Ensure that first aid kits are always available in all vehicles and maintain them regularly
- Keep distance from other drivers and don’t break the speed limit
- Ensure staff always fill trip / security clearance
- Regular check for the vehicles
- Wear reflective clothing while walking at night
- Use known car service instead of random taxi at night
- Have 1 team leader in each car for every mission (tell driver not to speed, put on seatbelts, not talk on phone, take breaks, departure time …)
Not Discussed / Pending / Unallocated Actions
- Staff Council to ensure minimum standards in cooperation with Security for private vehicles
- Stronger control for drivers in the camps
- Stronger driver selection criteria
- Transport UN Mafraq staff to Zaatari in UN bus with UN drivers (regardless of who pays)
Request for Global Support
- Provide Safe Road Use campaign materials (for example, posters) to Anne Buhaisi
- Send UN / UNHCR guidelines (for example, driver working hours, duration of breaks etc.) to Phil Priestley for SOP
- Fund defensive driving trainings (FSU Amman and Anne say it’s in the works)
