Classroom Expectations and Procedures
I have high expectations of your children in the classroom. Vanderlyn students know that school is their “job.” They are quickly learning what “successfully doing their job” means. Below you will find my key classroom expectations and procedures.
Crowns and Frowns: My classroom management system is based on four levels: Excellent-purple (smile with a crown on), Good-green (smile), Fair-yellow (straight face), and Unacceptable-red (frown). Each child starts on green (smile). Ending the day on green (smile) indicates that your child has come to class, completed her/his work, made responsible choices, and had a good day. As students make their individual choices, their numbered magnetic frog will move up or down (I may move it, or your child may move it). A student is never stuck on a color; they move throughout the day.
Daily Binders: Each day, your student will bring home a binder. You will find your student’s daily behavior report, student work, school papers, or notes that I send home, in this binder. I will encourage students to make this their responsibility; it is their job to show you the binder, make sure you sign it, and then return it for school each day. Please work with your child in assisting them to make this a habit.
Morning Routine: Each morning your child is expected to come into the classroom; put notes or money from home in the basket on my table; put away his/her snack, lunch box, back pack, and water bottle, and quietly sit down and begin morning work. This morning routine is in place to help your child develop a sense of responsibility and independence.
Working with Others: Students will be working in large and small groups frequently in the classroom. It is important for students to develop cooperative group work skills. This requires students to develop an ability to work with others, problem-solve with peers, share, and make responsible choices and decisions. Please encourage these positive behaviors at home!
Thank you for all of your support!
