/ Dues and Building Fund Rates for
2017-2018

Age refers to the age of the oldest partner in a couple, a single parent, or an individual member. Family memberships include children 26 and under. Young members “move up” in the dues categories in the membership year (July 1 to June 30) after the year in which the oldest partner in a couple, single parent, or individual “ages out.” New members joining after January 1 pay prorated dues for the remainder of the membership year.

Building Fund for 2017 - 2018

No building fund fees are charged during the first year of membership. There are also no building fund fees charged for members who are 34 and under. For these young members building fund liability begins during the membership year after the year in which the oldest partner in a couple, the single parent, or a single individual turns 35. The years of membership count toward building fund so that a couple that joined three years before one of them turned 35 will pay the full building fund fee for their category for membership years 4 through 8 (5 years).

We understand that not all synagogues have a building fund fee. As a relatively young congregation, we initiated the building fund to pay our mortgage, make improvements to the building, and establish and maintain a reserve fund for replacement of major building items. The fees have not changed in many years. We anticipate being able to retire the mortgage within the next few years. At the same time, many of the items on the replacement reserve such as all our HVAC roof-top units and hot water heaters have worn out and been replaced. Guided by the Finance Committee, the Board works to balance the needs of the building and the financial obligation we ask of members. We hope that once the mortgage is paid off (and we celebrate!) that we will be able to reduce these fees. It is hope, of course, not a promise.

There are two categories of building fund fees.

  • Full building fund fee for years 2 through 8 of membership (7 years of payments)
  • Continuing for all subsequent years
