Graduation Project: Career Path Inquiry

The student will investigate and document the career possibilities through a web-based program, either myroad.com or educationplanner.org. The components of this investigation will include an interest or personality assessment as well as an exploration of possible paths of study/training and associated careers. A printout of the results of this exploration is needed to certify completion. The Career Path Inquiry Worksheet should also be completed after gaining the necessary information from the online career resources.

These two resources have similar information. Both offer career assessments and in depth information relating to occupations. Educationplanner has a wider range of occupations while those listed in myroad are typically limited to occupations requiring education at the collegiate level.

Students will be responsible for printing and recording the following information. These materials along with the Career Path Inquiry Worksheet should be placed into your graduation project booklet.

1. Go to www.educationplanner.org

2. Under the ‘Discovering’ section, click on ‘Your Top Career Choices’

3. Click on ‘Take the Career Key™ Assessment’ and complete the assessment

4. Print your ‘Score Results’ This is a view of the 6 Personality Types and your score for each type. The higher your score, the more you characteristics you have of that type.

5. Click on the ‘Related Occupations’ links with the highest scores and explore occupations within these sections. These are the occupations that are related to your personality type.

6. Check the boxes next to select several occupations that you are attracted to. Then click on ‘Update my List’. To view your list, click on the ‘My List’ link in the upper right corner. You should then ‘Print’ your occupation list.

6. Click on an occupation to link to an Occupation Profile. Print the profile (all pages) of the occupation you find most appealing. You should include the profile in your graduation booklet. This profile will also help to answer question on the Career Path Inquiry Worksheet.

Directions to Set-Up MyRoad Account

1. Go to www.myroad.com

2. Click on Sign Up Today

3. If you took the PSAT click on ‘Go’ under test takers. Then enter the year and Your Code from your PSAT score report. If you did not take the PSAT, enter the 392005 into the field that states Enter Six Digit Code under School Programs.

4. If you are already a member of collegeboard.com, enter your username and password and

sign-in. You have now finished setting up your MyRoad account.

If you do not have a collegeboard.com account, click on the Sign-up link under Not a Member Yet

5. On the next page enter your information.

(You have to have an email account to set-up a collegeboard.com account. Please set up an email account now in order to proceed.) Please make a note of your collegeboard.com username and password. You will use this same username and password for any other collegeboard.com services, including registering for the SATs.

6. Click Submit. You now have access to the MyRoad program.

MyRoad Directions for Career Path Inquiry

Continue to the ID ME section of myroad to complete the ORA Personality Profiler (for high school students). Once complete, click on view my profile and print to include in your grad project booklet.

View suggested careers by clicking on the Career tab. Print the list of suggested Careers. Check the occupations you find most appealing and ‘Update My List’.

Updating your List will link you to the ‘Research Career’ section. From here, you may explore your occupations by clicking on their names under ‘Occupations’ on the left side.

Investigate occupations and print the information for your top career choice. You should include the printout in your graduation project booklet. This information will also aid you in completing the graduation project worksheet.
