Book Review for Island of the Blue Dolphins
Do you like books about survival? You will love The Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell!
Island of the Blue Dolphins tells the story of a young Native American girl named Karana. She is trapped alone on a small island, far away from land, called The Island of the Blue Dolphins. It is called this because it looks like “a dolphin on its side” and many dolphins live around the island. Karana faces numerous challenges on the island including fighting fierce, wild dogs, hunting her own food, building her own shelters, and making her own clothes and weapons. But, she also has many wonderful experiences like making unexpected friends whose companionship helps her to survive on the island. To find out more about Karana and her adventures, read the book!
I love this book for so many reasons! Scott O’Dell is so creative with the way he tells the story of Karana and her life on the island through not only her eyes, but also her heart, and mind. There are many twists and turns that made me both laugh and cry. The characters are so unforgettable like Ramo and Rontu. We understand how and why they mean so much to Karana. I truly believe that this book deserves 5 out of 5 Gold Stars. You will definitely regret it if you don’t read it!
