Wrestling changes

Issue regarding tape applied to external surface of a wrestler.

Rule is: no tape may be applied to head gear.

This came about from the Head Gear manufacturers that were concerned with changing the integrity of the head gear. Any changes to the head gear must come from the head gear manufacturer directly.

Banner – we are currently having one made(30” x10’) that includes the CPATA logo

Currently there are 9 or 10 pieces of legislation that deals with Certified Athletic Trainers

Legislation:

SB957/967 – Licensure – Approved in the Senate on 9/28 by vote of 49-0. Now referred to the House Professional Licensure Committee.

HB200/SB200 – Safety in Youth Sports act – Passed in House on 10/5 by vote of 199 – 0. The bill goes back to senate for concurrence and then to Gov for signing. AT are still in the language, it was made broader to include more professions.

HB209/SB209 – Pennsylvania Equity in Interscholastic Sports Disclosure Act.

Will require schools in annually disclose their athletic training facilities, medical equipment, the number and compensation of ATs and the time spent by each AT with each team.

HB1610 – Cardiac Arrest Prevention Act – Passed house 10/3 199 – 0. PATS is neutral, its good legislation but still some issues to iron out.

HB1632 – Concussion Management in Sports Act – requiring baseline testing

Currently three tests may be used: 1. Trail Making test parts A and B, 2. SCAT 2, 3. Impact

Heat Acclimatization

Position Statement (Sudden Death in Sports) – requiring rectal temps

Hours and Days of practice may have to be adjusted similar to NCAA

Approved by Tennessee and New Jersey

Possible complications (i.e. earlier FB practice – shorter summer)

PATS is looking at Partnering with American Alliance of Family Practitioners

Position Proposal Guide / Position Improvement Guide – cd should be available June from NATA

Job satisfaction study from NATA – everyone should have received an email notification to complete the survey – please complete!
