A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA WOMEN’S AND MEN’S BASKETBALL TEAMSAND COACHES FOR ANOUTSTANDING SEASON, TO INVITE THE WOMEN’S AND MEN’S GAMECOCK BASKETBALL TEAMS AND UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA OFFICIALS TO JOIN THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY IN JOINT SESSION AT A DATE AND TIME SCHEDULED BY THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES AND THE PRESIDENT PRO TEMPORE OF THE SENATE, WHEREBY COACH DAWN STALEY IS INVITED TO ADDRESS THE JOINT SESSION, AND TO EXTEND THE PRIVILEGE OF THE FLOOR DURING THE JOINT SESSION.

Whereas, this season, the University of South Carolina’s women’s and men’s basketball teams displayed hard work, perseverance, and dedication during their respective, historic performances in the women’s and men’s NCAA tournaments; and

Whereas, on April2, 2017, the University of South Carolina women’s basketball teamcompleted a magical season by winning their first national championship in women’s basketball, defeating the Mississippi State Bulldogs 67-55at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas; and

Whereas, the Gamecock men’s team stormed onto the national stage, defeating Marquette, Duke, Baylor, and Florida to reach the national semifinal game at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona on April 1, 2017 and the team’s first ever Final Four. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

Thatthe members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, invite the University of South Carolina women’s basketball team and University of South Carolina officials to join the General Assembly in Joint Session at a date and time scheduled by the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President Pro Tempore of the Senate, in the chamber of the South Carolina House of Representatives, and invite Coach Dawn Staleyto address the Joint Session.

Be it further resolved that the University of South Carolina men’s basketball team and Coach Frank Martin be invited as the General Assembly’s special guests at the Joint Session.

Be it further resolved that the privilege of the floor be extended to the University of South Carolina women’s and men’s basketball teams,University of South Carolina officials, Coach Dawn Staley, and Coach Frank Martin during the Joint Session.
