Classroom discussion / How are the students learning?
Students watch a video on printing a booklet and are introduced to the Printing Problem.
The teacher shows the students how they would make an 8 page booklet.
In pairs the students follow the teacher and make the booklet. They then number the pages and look for number patterns.
Students discuss what observations they have made and try to make predictions of how to arrange page numbers for booklets with more pages.
Task 1: 16 Page booklet
Students follow Worksheet 1 and make a 16 page booklet. They number the pages and compare the number sequences to the prediction they made earlier.
Students discuss what observations they have made and if it differs from their predictions.
Teacher shows how adverts are placed on booklets to use up all available space in a page.
Students discuss what problems there may be in trying to fit all the adverts onto a page.
