Vision’s Mission
The most highly respected coaches in the Indianapolis area saw a void in the proper training of athletes as clubs tried to be the biggest mega-club around. A trend developed that just gathered the best players, but didn’t spend the time to properly train. These coaches left coaching their elite teams at Munciana, and Circle City, along with other well respected coaches, to form Vision. Vision is intentionally a small club designed to provide the propertraining to help develop athletes that want to reach the next level. Vision’s model will include a focus on athlete wellness, and development via a well-trained, professional coaching staff. These highly respected coaches are well known for teaching the proper skills and fundamentals that designed to preparethe player to reach their goals, whether it’s to make your school team or compete at the highest collegiate level, Vision’s coaching staff will help make it happen. Most of our coaches are former Collegiate players. Playing in college doesn’t guarantee that a person can coach and train well, but these former players that coach at Vision have proven they can successfully make the transition. The goal of this overall mission is to allow for consistent development of the athlete’s overall abilities, mental, physical, and social skills needed in Volleyball and life.

Vision’s Leadership
Eric Bulmahn –Director- Eric begins his 21st season coaching volleyball athletes in Central Indiana. In that time, Coach Bulmahn has prepared over 100 athletes for their collegiate career through club volleyball where they have gone on to become All-Americans, USA Junior National team members, Gatorade Players of the year, and Olympic festival members. Those club teams also proved to be successful teams with 13 of them ending up ranked in the top 25 in the United States. Upon the end of Eric’s successful playing career for Ball State as a Middle, he began his coaching career as an assistant to Don Shondell for the Ball State Men’s team. Eric also continued to play both professional beach volleyball with fellow Vision coach Corky Robertson and indoor atUSA Nationals where he earned All-American honors in 1991. Eric decided to join the High School coaching ranks in 2014 at Mt. Vernon High School in Fortville, IN. Under his leadership the team transformed their 2013 record of 9-21 to a 24-9 season in 4A and 29-5 with a Sectional championship in 2015
After talking with many clubs upon the decision to leave Circle City,Coach Bulmahn accepted the role of Co-Director of Vision during the 2015 club season. Eric found Vision had the best coaches providing the proper training, in the right atmosphere, where the athletes are taught the mental and physical traits to be a successful person and player. In five full seasons, Vision has proven to be one of the elite clubs, featuring teams playing at the highest level and seeking out the toughest competition they can find in a 3 hour radius. In 2014 Vision’s 17’s Elite team finished 5th in the highest division of the AAU National Championships.
Eric’s personal life is focused around his Daughters Jaclyn 19, Victoria 16, and Cecilia 14 and his wife, Monica. Vision in 2018
Regional teams- Vision’s very successful, lighter model is designed to offer youth age players an entry into club volleyball with a less time and financial commitment.Regional teams will be offered for athletes in ages 8-16 and each will be made of up athletes either selecting Regional teams, or with athletes who aren’t yet ready to make an Elite or National Vision travel team. Unlike Vision’s Elite club that trains December through June, three times per week and compete in about 10 of the highest level of tournaments, the Regional teams will practice twice per week for from January through the end of April. The Regional teams will play in 5 local events suited to advance the athletes development. Unlike area school feeder clubs, Vision has no facility conflicts, guaranteeing practices will be conducted on a consistent basis.
Regional teams may be composed by age group or grade when assigned to a team. Coaches will use tryouts to determine the best fit for each athlete in order to provide the best opportunity to learn and succeed.
Vision Elite and National Teams
Coaches-Vision invests in our coaches and their continued development. This investment has led to Vision having more former collegiate players as coaches on staff that have won USA Volleyball Open Division National Championships than any other club in the Indianapolis area. This successful model helps with coaches that can relate to the girls, and speak from experience when helping her develop. Vision also has a coach mentoring program to share the knowledge and experience. Let’s face it, with about 250 Juniors volleyball teams in an hour radius, there just aren’t enough quality coaches to go around. That’s where Vision differentiates from the Mega-Clubs. We will only be as large a club where we can provide high level, quality coaches, so as a parent, you know your daughter is getting the correct training for your significant investment. Our coaches consist of former NCAA All-American players, former collegiate coaches, Open Division Nationals Championship club coaches, former Professional Indoor and Beach players, and coaches that have developed over 100 collegiate Division 1 players that perform(ed) in the Big Ten, ACC, SEC, Pac 10, Horizon, Big East, OVC, Summit and many other conferences. Many other players have found great success in DII, DIII, and NAIA programs
Tournaments - Vision will be playing both USAV Volleyball tournaments and JVA tournaments. USA Volleyball is the pipeline to the Junior National, National and Olympic training teams. That does not exclude playing at the AAU National Championships for those Vision’s Elite and National teams. Since some of the best volleyball in the United States is within a 3-hour radius, Vision is in a unique location to challenge the best teams while keeping the travel costs down. Our Elite teams compete in the top “Open” divisions. National teams will also compete in the top tournaments playing in Open of Premier Club divisions. Playing against opponents that actually force a higher level of play and a subsequent higher level of training is our model for development. Two facts immediately jump out - 1. Every Vision senior in our four years of existence has had the opportunity to go on to play college volleyball and - 2. Every Elite Vision player entering High School made their High School teams and several made Varsity. There is only one way to achieve such a terrific outcome…at Vision, we focus on development and training helping each player maximizes their potential.
Fees Statement… Our basic fees include, coaching, court rental, insurance, and player packages which include uniforms, warm-ups, backpacks, & recruiting guidance. Coaches travel expensesand tournament entry fees are not included in the basic fees. Families covering coaches travel is industry standard in club volleyball and cannot be predetermined until events are set and hotels secured. Each family will pay their portion of their coaching staff’s travel expenses when competing out of town. As stated earlier, Vision will keep its travel at a common-sense level. The best volleyball in the country is within a three-hour radius of Indianapolis. While we train and compete at a very high, elite level, Vision will NOT spend exorbitant amounts of money traveling to do so. See Vision’s Fee Section later in the Club Guide.
Travel &Accommodations Vision believes in traveling and staying as a family. We DO NOT advocate for ‘team’ rooms or player rooms. These ‘player room’ concepts mean you not only pay for your portion of the athlete’s room BUT your own room when traveling. At Vision, you house your own daughter. While traveling, parents are expected to supervise their children unless teams are at event venues, during which the coach assumes primary responsibility. When necessary, athletes may travel with other families and share the costs of respective rooms. Vision has expertise and experience and will oversee club travel and coordinate parent reps. Vision is a family environment and we will make every effort to keep all teams traveling in one property whenever possible.
Vision’s Volleyball Centeris the first training center in many years designed for the convenience of a vast majority of the competitive volleyball athletes in the area. With its proximity to I-465 and I-69 it is easily accessed from all over the greater metro area. Sitting just off 96th Street, VVC is an A+ location. Because Vision is a small venue, tournament play is not our focus. The club will compete in USA Volleyball events as well as JVA and AAU events. By not being bound to one organization, Vision is able to play in many Indianapolis area tournaments and only travel within a 3 to 4-hour radius to play top teams from most parts of the United States. This avoids the monotonous tournament play that some clubs only playing JVA experience, where you play the same teams repeatedly throughout the season. VVC is a place to train and develop athletes. There is a parent lounge with a flat screen TV and Wi-Fi.

Volleyball Performance Training
Acceleration Indianais proud to be a partner with Vision Volleyball Club for a sixth year. We have helped hundreds of volleyball players improve their on-court mobility, position specific skills, stamina to outlast the competition, and training for injury prevention.
Our training protocols and proprietary equipment have been developed by some of the top sport scientists in the country and are supported by over 20 years of research and a network of 130+ performance training centers in the US, Europe, Japan, Philippines, and South Korea.
Programs are individualized to each athlete based on test data, age, position, and goals of the athlete. Training is one-on-one with our degreed, professional staff with extensive experience in performance sports training and specifically the neuromuscular training concepts of the Acceleration Program.
Results: Get to the ball faster: with improved quickness, agility, coordination and balance. Hitters make more kills: with increased vertical and greater arm power for higher velocity hits.
Injury Prevention: improved rotator cuff strength and stability for hitters. Reduced risk of non-contact ACL tears by teaching landing techniques to reduce shock loads on the knees and developing lower extremity musculature to reduce valgus displacement at the knee. ACL screen testing is available to determine if the athlete is at risk and if so, a risk reduction program is offered.
Vision’s Training, Practices and Playing Time Philosophies
Training
It is easy for players and parents to get caught up in trying to find the most elite team to join,or seek out that best chance at a national championship. Conversely, one can bargain shop and look for the cheapest option, forgetting to investigate quality and professionalism of coaches and commitment to training. In this search, families often overlook the single most important element in club volleyball – what is best for your daughter’s development and future? The question must be asked: Where will my daughter improve and thrive?
- At Vision’s Travel team levels, the focus for ourcoaches and athletes is bothon the athlete’s individual volleyball skill development as well as their team’s success. We are committed to this!
- At Vision’s younger age groups, we will keep a greater portion of practice time on proper fundamental training and player development. Developing the all-around athlete and not just one skill set will be our strategy. Specializing at youth ages may yield some wins, however, it is usually detrimental to well-rounded volleyball skills of the young athlete.
- Vision advocates for its athletes’ participation in other school sports. In fact, some of our top players happen to be multi-sport athletes. These athletes are being recruited by elite college volleyball programs. Special athletes tend to manage multiple sports well. Parents and their children usually know when enough is enough. Vision does not make that decision for anyone.
Philosophy as it Relates to Success
In volleyball where each player must master many different individual skills, quality repetitive training and discipline is the difference between mediocrity and greatness. Our entire training philosophy is based on individual player developmentand discipline with the understanding that developing great individual players will lead to great teams. Best evidence of this training philosophy was the success our top 17s team had at Nationals, finishing 5th overall in the most elite ‘Open’ division. This top five National finish clearly places Vision amongst the elite clubs around. We want to continue to win at the highest level, but won’t sacrifice our mission just to win early season matches. You contract Vision to develop your daughter’s skills and enable some greater plan, plain and simple, and that is our commitment to you.
Practices & Playing Time
VisionTravel Teamstrain three times per week during non-tourney weeks, twice during event weeks. Training more than three times per week may challenge girls with the increased demands athletes experience year-round with their high school training and academics at school. Athletes need recovery and rest as well as train. Teams will train and compete with the mindset of winning and within our overall philosophies. Playing time is NOT distributed evenly, though some playing time is guaranteed. Each athlete will be trained equally. During the regular club season, Visiontravel teams will compete in approximately 10 events and will travel in a maximum radius of four hours from Indianapolis. Our Elite teams will compete in Open division, our National teams will compete in the 2nd division, and our 3rd teams will compete in club division. All Vision teams will attend year ending Nationals Tournament except our Regional teams.
