❖ Practice identifying the letters of their names
❖ Have your child count to 20.
❖ When you feel overwhelmed or your child does, remind each other to use one of the Disengage the Stress Response Strategy we have learned is S. T. A. R. (Smile . Take a deep breath . And . Relax.) Do this 3 times.
❖ Encourage your child to write their first name, capitalizing the first letter in the name and writing the remaining letters in lowercase.
❖ Help your child use the correct pencil grip.
❖ Read to your child every night.
❖ Have your child make a commitment at the beginning of each day. Give examples of what they can do throughout the day to keep that commitment. If your child is not keeping their commitment during the day, please stop them and remind them of their commitment and the importance of keeping it. At the end of the day, review examples of when they kept their commitment and a plan for tomorrow for the times they did not keep their commitment. Our commitments have been to keep the classroom safe and to use kind words.
