Head Coach Application
Ringette Alberta is now accepting applications for the Head Coach positions for the 2016Alberta Winter Games (AWG) in Medicine Hat, AB, from February 13-16, 2016. The Alberta Winter Games represent the highest level of amateur athletic multi-sport competition in Alberta. The Head Coach will be responsible for leading the AWG program within the parameters set out by Ringette Alberta and their respective Zone.
The Alberta Winter Games coaching staff provide U17 athletes with the opportunity to compete at the highest possible level. This age category is aligned to the “Train to Compete” phase of the Long Term Athlete Development model. The team selection process is designed to expose as many athletes as possible to the development opportunities afforded.
Ringette Alberta anticipates a highly successful Alberta Winter Games program and we encourage all interested candidates to submit an application.

The application deadline is August 15, 2015. Candidates will be screened by a selection committee composed of representatives from within the zone, and will be notified of the next steps in the process.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Level 2 certified (old NCCP)
OR
- CI 1 and 2 Certified (new NCCP)
AND - Making Ethical Decisions – Competition Introduction
The above certification requirements must be completed no later than December 15, 2015.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience coaching high performance athletes in a competitive environment
- Proven ability to work in a team setting, providing leadership and guidance
- Ability to work cooperatively with assistant coaches in order to effectively maximize their strengths
- Consistent and fair coaching practices
- Knowledge of effective and ethical player evaluation and selection process
- Ability to plan and conduct on-ice sessions for a team at the U17AA level
- Ability to prepare a team for a short term competition and coach a team in this environment
GENERAL DUTIES
- Act as a liaison between the Ringette Alberta, the zones and each association team
- Maximize development opportunities for all athletes, coaches, officials and administrators throughout the process.
- Work with team staff to:
-Design and implement the player evaluation and selectionprocess
-Provide feedbackto all players throughout the selection process
-Plan, implement and control pre-game preparation and communication with the team
-Designall necessary practice plans and coach the team during all games and practices
-Establish rules for the team and oversee the supervision/discipline of the players
-Establish regular procedures to monitor the progress of athlete training
-Maintain contact and communication with associationteam coaches

- The athletes on Team Alberta will all most likely also compete with anassociation team within your Zone. The ability to liaise with these programs is essential to the AWG experience. How will you manage the requirements of both programs for your athletes?
- The AWG program only allows for 6 practices as a team prior to the Games. How will you utilize these ice times to maximize success?
- What do you feel is the role of an assistant coach? How would you utilize your assistant coaches within the AWG program?
