FIELD EVENT
Instructions for the Conduct of Triple Jump
Note the Start and Finish Times of each event on the front of the appropriate folder.
Recorder/ Caller - Organises the competitors
- Call athletes together mark them off
- Ask if anyone will need to go to a Track event during the next 30 minutes, mark their name. Ask what event and try and get them to stay as long as possible before leaving you may need to let them have their jump first to ensure the flow of the competition
- Explain the procedure to athletes
They will be able to measure their run up and have one warm up jump in order.
They will be called up to Jump in the following way eg Smith followed by Brown. “Smith” jumps whilst “Brown” gets ready. “Brown”followed by “Jones”. Be listening for your name
After your jump walk out of the pit and back to the recorder to check your name. Go back and sit with the rest of the athletes to wait for your next jump.
At the Secondary levelathletes will receive 3 jumps in total. The best jump recordedwill be the winner. Students in the top 3 need to remain at the Field event whilst results are checked so that they can receive their medals. If they have to leave to compete in another event it is their responsibility to return to see if they have won a medal at some stage during the day.
- Answer any questions
- Assign them a number they collect marker and start measuring their run ups. Call out competitors in jumping order for their practice jumps.
Sit at table with back to fence, in line with take -off board.
- When the measurement is called repeat it back to the person who read it out, they will then repeat it back to you. At this stage the athlete should have walked back to confirm their name with you.
- Check that the pit has been raked (raker out of the pit) and then Call up the next jumper “O’Keeffe” followed by “Webster.” and repeat the entire procedure.
Reading the Measurement / Fouls -
Stand in line with the front of the take off board if possible try and put your body between board and spectators) . Watch the front of the board closely during the jump. Make a decision and raise the flag confidently.
Fouls –If the jump is good raise the white flag.
A hop, step and jump must be used. The competitor may touch the ground with the sleeping
leg.
If the ground surface between the take off board and the pit is touched, the jump is a
foul, raise the red flag. The jump will not need to measured if it is a foul
The measurement is read from the front edge of the take off board. Make sure the tape is straight. Call the measurement out clearly. The recorder will repeat the measurement back to you. Repeat the measurement back to the recorder as confirmation.
Staking the Jump – The stake goes in at the back most (nearest to take off board) mark made by the jumper in the pit. Watch closely as the jumper lands in the pit and mark with the stake.
Raker -In between jumpers rake the pit to remove any marks made bythe last jumper. Listen for the recorders call and stop raking if the recorder calls the next jumper.
