Georgetown Area Republican Women

2014 Scholarship Application

The Georgetown Area Republican Women (GARW) will award three scholarships for the 2014-2015 collegiate school year to area high school students. One female student will be selected from Georgetown High School, Eastview High School, Jarrell High School, and Florence High School.

Each scholarship of $1500 will be paid directly to the institution of higher education that will be attended by recipient for the 2014-2015 academic year. If the selected recipient is unable to accept the scholarship money to be applied to the 2014-2015 collegiate academic year, then the scholarship money will be forfeited by said recipient and awarded to another applicant at the discretion of the GARW Scholarship Committee.

The scholarships will be awarded at the discretion of the GARW Scholarship Committee based upon the application, a written statement, and interview. There must be at least three applicants from each school to be considered for participation in the scholarship process.

The following criteria must be met or the applicants will forfeit the opportunity to qualify for the scholarship:

·  The student must be a female senior at Georgetown High School, Eastview High School, Florence High School and Jarrell High School, who is planning to attend an accredited college or university during the 2014-2015 school year.

·  The student must actually be accepted and enrolled in school, and show proof thereof, before she will be considered.

·  Three recommendations must accompany each application. Recommendations should be from teachers, clergy, employers, or other professionals and should address the student’s integrity, responsibility, ambition, determination, and community and political participation. The recommendations should come from three unrelated sources: from high school personnel (teacher or staff), a previous/current employer, church personnel (clergy or staff), or from another professional within the community.

·  Each student should include a written statement about the responsibilities of citizenship, qualities of leadership, and the importance of education. Points will be given for clarity, completeness, originality and creativity. The statement should be typed and contain 500 words or less.

·  Deadline: The application, completed in full, with all attachments, should be mailed on or before March 25, 2014 to Kay McKee 103 Aster Circle Georgetown, Texas 78633 for consideration by the Scholarship Committee.
