LESSON TOPICS FOR FEBRUARY
Feb 4 THE TEACHER WILL APPEAR
Rev. Janet Friedline
It has been said that when the student is ready, the teacher will appear. This is true. But the question is -just whoor what is the teacher, and how does it appear?
Feb 11 THE POWER OF THE
BEHOLDING MAN
Dr. Al G. Salazar, Minister Emeritus
This morning we can remind ourselves that our life experiences are not related to anything separate and apart from us, but are the result of individual consciousness.
Feb 18 LOVE IS ALL YOU NEED
Ms. Donna Gatewood, Practitioner
Love is the fulfilling of the law. He who loves will have no thoughts of irritation, criticism or resistance to overcome. With love, all is well.
Feb 25 GOD'S LIGHT
REVEALS THE WAY
Rev. Maria Borrero
It is the light of Truth which will show us the way to our true self, our eternal self the sons and daughters of God our Father. Then we will say, "I am," with a new meaning.
LOVE IS…..
Rev. Pat Beach
Throughout time, there have been countless attempts to describe love. Love has long been recognized as the greatest of human experiences.
In I Corinthians, Chapter 13, the Apostle Paul tells of the greatness and beauty of Love as an eternal Spiritual blessing. His description compares this quality to others and shows it to be far superior in every way. He describes love as unselfish and giving and so we glimpse the nature of its Divine Source.
The message is a powerful statement and any portion of it is worth contemplating. For example, “then I shall understand, as all along I have myself been understood” says that in being open to God’s Love, we can live from a Divine perspective.
This greatest blessing is experienced as we love God; love one another and accept the love that God has for us. In this union and communion, it is revealed simply that God Is and therefore Love Is.
Most Wondrous God, thank you that this is forever so. Amen.
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
ITEM 1: CHANGES TO THE CHURCH BOARD: Since the last Newsletter, Ms. Judyette Baker, Board Treasurer, and Ms. Ida Hayes, Board Secretary, have left the Board as they have other personal commitments. We thank Judyette for the time she has spent on the Board and we wish her well with her small business endeavors as a Pilates Instructor. We also thank Ida Hayes for her many years of wonderful service, most recently as the Secretary to the Board. We could always count on Ida to take accurate and concise meeting minutes; to get them prepared in record time, and to have them distributed in just a couple of days…well done Ida.
Consistent with our By Laws, the Board appointed the Church Bookkeeper, Donna Gatewood, as the new Treasurer and Board Member to complete the last three months of this Board term in place of Judyette Baker. Elan Darlington was selected to fill in as Secretary of the Board as she is already a Board Member. The Board also decided that since only three months remain on this Board Term, no replacement would be sought for Ida Hayes’ vacant position.
We will be holding Board Elections in the near future and a new Board will be formed in May 2007, and announced at our Annual Church Meeting. To be eligible to run for the Board, one must have completed the Basic Course and be a Church Member. If you are interested in running for a Board position, please let me know.
ITEM 2: FEBRUARY 11, 2007, LESSON TO BE GIVEN BY REV. AL SALAZAR
Just a “heads-up” to let you know that our Minister Emeritus, Dr. A Salazar, will be giving the Sunday Lesson on February 11, 2007.
ITEM 3: MAY 2007, MUSIC GALA IN MEMORY OF NORMAN BOTT:
On May 4, 2007, a Music Gala will be held in the Sanctuary in loving memory of Norman Bott. Our very own Shirley Taylor-Moore, Music Director, will be directing this event and she will be supported by Donna Gatewood who is Chairing the Planning Committees. If you are interested in helping out on a committee or you have any questions call Donna Gatewood (703) 641-9141. Plan on attending and bringing family and friends. Look for more information in the next newsletter.
ITEM 4: NEXT BOARD MEETING/VALENTINE RECEPTION: The next Board Meeting is scheduled for Sunday, February 11, 2007. In place of our Brunch/Mixer, we will be hosting our Annual Valentine Reception. Please plan on attending the Reception where we will be recognizing the person selected as our 2007 Church Valentine…..I bet you wonder whom that might be………..
Love and blessings….

KID’S KORNER
December and January were fine months for the Sunday school. We continued with our studies with the book club, art, Bible lessons and, of course, cooking with Spirit.
On January 7, we were delighted to welcome Aaron Watkins back into the Sunday school fold. Aaron, we’ve missed your smiling face and your contributions to the group. We hope to see you often.
On January 14, the Sunday school, under the watchful eye of Chef Morris Dean, prepared another super delicious brunch consisting of apple strudel French toast with apple butter and warm maple syrup accompanied by turkey bacon and turkey ham, and hash brown potatoes. This lovely brunch also included fresh fruit garnish, orange juice, coffee and tea. Our fund raising brunch was attended by 40 hungry church family members and friends. We collected $163 for the general fund. All together, the Sunday school has donated $ 684 to the general fund through proceeds from their Sunday brunches. Hugs and kisses to all of you who support the Sunday school in their efforts to do service to the church. We are so grateful.
There will not be a Sunday Brunch in February because the Board of Trustees will be sponsoring its Annual Valentine’s Day Reception on Sunday, February 11. The next Sunday school brunch will be on Sunday, March 11. Mark your calendar--you won’t want to miss it!
We want to thank Ms Denise King Miller for giving her time and love to the children in the form of the thought provoking group discussions she conducted in October and November. The children enjoyed the opportunity to have free and open discussions on several meaningful topics. Ms Denise is on an extended trip to visit her parents; we hope to have her back with us soon. Ms Denise, we love you and thank you for everything.

ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
The Alumni Association continues with this season’s series on the Seven Acts of the Christ. In November, Karla Rodas discussed the Birth of the Christ within, beautifully incorporating her work as an artist and sharing her personal experience of the quickening of the Spirit within. The activity of Spirit awakens us to new life – the change from the mortal to Spiritual consciousness.
In December, Lisa Kennedy spoke on the Awakening in the Temple. Lisa shared her personal understanding and experience of awakening to the truth of the imperishable body, the Temple of God, the I AM or Christ awareness within.
In January, James Tomaski, Sr., discussed baptism, the activity of Spirit in consciousness that first purifies and cleanses the mind to prepare the way for the baptism or quickening of the spiritual nature within us – the true power that reflects in both mind and body.
On February 4, the Alumni series on the Healing Christ continues with Temptation.
Alumni Association members (graduates of the 6-course Divine Science curriculum): It is that time of year. Please pay your $10 annual dues to Mr. Wayne Gatewood, our Treasurer.

Alumni Secretary
