CLASS DESCRIPTION:
World Studies from 750 B.C. to 1600 A.D.: Ancient Greece to the First Global Age
The seventh grade year is an integrated study of world history, beginning with ancient Greece and continuing through global exploration. All four social studies strands (history, geography, government and economics) are used to illustrate how historic events are shaped by geographic, social, cultural, economic and political factors. Students develop their understanding of how ideas and events from the past have shaped the world today.
GRADING:
The district grading scale is as follows:
A = 90-100% B = 80-89.9% C = 70-79.9% D = 60-69.9% F = 59.9% and below
My classroom grading breaks down:
65% Unit assessments and an occasional project
25% Daily classwork and homework
10% Formative assessments (quizzes)
LEARNING:
- Assignments (including h.w., class work and some projects) are designed to help you “experience” learning and is the practice you willneed inorder to show mastery of your learning.
- Unit assessments contain multiple choice, short answer and extended response style questions like the stateassessments. They will make up the largest percentage of your grade so you will have to show proficiency in order to pass theclass. Projects can also be used to show mastery and therefore can be important as well.
PROCEDURES:
- All work is to have your full name and period and you are to use blue/black ink or pencil
- Work is communicated via, remind101, progress book, my web site, emodo, the team bulletin board folders, the classroom shelves, and it is also written on the board every week (the last week and current week). There is NO excuse for you to not know what is going on in class!
- You are the only one responsible for make-up work when absent; not me or your parents.
- Completed absent work is to be placed in the “absent” file folder and not to be handed in to me or placed on my desk.
- You will be given an extra day plus the number of days you missed to make up absent work.
- You will have to keep a written account of all class work for each week in your assignment book. Behavior marks andloss of privileges will result without a properly filled out assignment book.
- Class notes will be 3 hole punched and kept in a 3 prong folder IN ORDER! You’ll usethese notes to complete unitreview sheets to prepare for unit assessments.
- 20 pages of loose-leaf paper must be kept in the front of the 3 prong folder prior to your notes. This is your area for bell work, etc.
- You are to keep everything we do - NOTHING is to be thrown away until after grade cards each 9 weeks and then I will provide a list of what you need to keep and what can be thrown away. It is also posted on my website. Some things we will keep all year in order to prepare for the end of year final.
- Once per week we will block opposite the science class. This will typically take place on Thursdays and Fridays.
- Textbooks will not be assigned unless a student desires one. Instead we have a class set here at school and the on-line version you can access at home
- Technology will be utilized and all students are to adhere to school’s acceptable use policy or risk losing technology privileges.
- Fire and tornado procedures have been discussed and are posted in the front of the room.
BEHAVIOR:
- Respect yourself, respect others and respect the school. In short, be a T.I.G.E.R.!
CLASSROOM MATERIALS:
-TECHNOLOGY – though not required, technology is a critical part of our classroom. Our class will use technology for bell work, exit work and everything in between. That said, please be responsible with your personal device and don’t use it unless you are first prompted by me to do so.
-FOLDER - a BLUE 3 prong folder with 2 pockets or a blue 3 ring binder with two pockets
-PAPER – 20 loose-leaf pages should be bound in the center of your folder for bell work. Extra paper should beavailable for classroom assignments.
-PENS - only blue or black ink for work, HOWEVER when we peer check work in class it is nice to have a RED PEN.
-PENCILS – preferably mechanical so you do not have to keep sharpening them in class as it is a disturbance.
-ASSIGNMENT BOOK –your first one is provided to you by the school and after that I believe there is a cost.
-BOX OF TISSUES – we never have enough!
