To help us prepare this Advent we look at the stories of 4 different people from the Bible who prepared, in their own way, their hearts to welcome the Lord. As we listen to each of these stories, think about the similarities of your own life

Luca

Is your heart ready to welcome the Lord?

We bring you the story of Mary

Reader 1 (Joseph): A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke (1:26-38)

God sent the angel Gabriel to the town of Nazareth in Galilee with a message for a virgin named Mary.

George She was engaged to Joseph from the family of King David. The angel greeted Mary and said,

Reader 2 (Gabriel: Eleanor): ‘You are truly blessed! The Lord is with you.’

Reader 3(Oliver) : Mary was confused by the angel’s words and wondered what they meant.

George: Then the angel told Mary,

Reader 2( Eleanor) : ‘Don’t be afraid! God is pleased with you, and you will have a son. His name will be Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of God Most High. The Lord God will make him king, as his ancestor David was. He will rule the people of Israel forever, and his kingdom will never end.’

Reader (Joseph): Mary asked the angel,

Reader 4 ( Maya): ‘How can this happen? I am not married!’

George: The angel answered that the Holy Spirit would come down to her, and God’s power would come over her so her child would be called the holy Son of God.

Oliver: Her relative Elizabeth was also going to have a son, even though she was old. No one thought she could ever have a baby, but in three months she will have a son. Nothing is impossible for God!’

Reader 1: (Joseph) Mary said,

Reader 4 (Maya): ‘I am the Lord’s servant! Let it happen as you have said.’

Reader 1 (Joseph): And the angel left her.

Joseph: The Gospel of the Lord.

Dear Jesus

Help us to have the courage of Mary and accept what God wants us to do.

May we be humble and compassionate and come to say as you did,

“Behold the servant of the Lord”

Amen
