1. / Team Leader
- Supervise team members. Ensure all policies and procedures are followed and hold team members accountable. Recommend changes to policies, procedures and processes to ensure due diligence, best practices and create operational efficiencies.
- Coach and mentor team members to help them develop and refine skills.
- Delegate appropriate projects and tasks to team members, monitor project milestones, resource allocation & utilization, and follow up on project status throughout the project. Ensure best practices are followed on all team projects, implementations, and operations. Hold team members accountable for projects and timelines.
- Work with the Process Manager on developing and implementing aspects of ITIL framework and processes to create operational efficiencies and improve the delivery of our services.
- Work with the Technical Manager on service team tactical planning, budget requests, and continual service and operational improvements.
- Maintain excellent communication with the DLT management team.
- Immediately inform the DLT management team of any critical situations (e.g. major deviation from project plan) or issues that do (or may) result in a degradation of service or outage.
- Consistently relate the vision and mission of the University and ITS to the DLT vision and mission.
- Promote, support and uphold DLT's vision, mission, and goals.

2. / Operational Duties
- Design, build, install, configure, test, implement, maintain, support & secure Operating Systems, hardware and software for production services provided to UL and PSU.
- Quickly respond and effectively troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve routine, difficult and complex system errors/service outages with minimal downtime.
- Provide technical guidance to staff, e.g. troubleshooting techniques, usage, and instruction.
- Work with vendors to resolve software and hardware issues, determine appropriate architectures and configurations; obtain quotes for enterprise hardware, software, systems and licensing.
- Follow ITS maintenance window times for performing work that is known to (or may) cause service outages. Provide advance notice of this work.
- Utilize problem determination skills and be resourceful to resolve issues.
- Automate routine and repetitive tasks to streamline operations and create efficiencies.
- Write and maintain correct and complete documentation of system and software design, setup, configuration and use.
- Interface with University organizations to resolve service related issues, (e.g. network connectivity, naming issues, etc)
- Evaluate and recommend potential enterprise level equipment, components, tools and software based on current and future needs of the organization and our UL/PSU customers.
- Follow DLT Operational policies and procedures; Perform work in accordance with best practices.
- Lead in the Development, implementation, testing and maintenance of server-level disaster recovery plans.
- Work with the Service Desk Team to provide seamless support for escalated issues. All issues that come through the Service Desk are DLT issues, and concern all members of DLT. As a Systems Administrator, it is your responsibility to ensure issues (reported or discovered) are resolved, or properly escalated.

- For projects you are leading, create complete project plans and operational checklists for all projects.
- Monitor the progress, status and issues of your team’s tasks and projects that impact DLT/UL/PSU.
- Manage your time to address multiple, competing projects and day-to-day operational priorities to meet due dates.
- Follow DLT project management process and work independently and collaboratively with other DLT Service Team members to effectively complete projects and meet deadlines.

- Review team member’s project plans and operational checklists for accuracy, completeness, and the ability to meet determined timelines. Work with the team member(s) to make any required changes.

- Create test plans and perform regression analysis to validate functionality and performance of systems after each change (configuration, maintenance, or upgrade).

Digital Library Technologies (DLT) supports specialized infrastructure, systems and applications for the University Libraries, providing IT services for 37 libraries across 24 Penn State campus locations, and leads in the research, development and implementation of IT systems and services to support the stewardship of digital assets. The Team Leader is responsible for the day-to-day service team activities (tasks/projects) including decision making, problem solving, planning, and delegating, leading team meetings and supervises service team members
