The city of Salerno isabout 45-60 minutes far from Naples. It can be reached by train ( or with the SITA bus company (
FromRoma Ciampino or Fiumicino airport ( students may go by bus or train to the main train station in Rome (Roma Termini) and get to Salerno by train. It takes about 2 hours 45 minutes.
Students can get to the Fisciano and Baronissi Campuses from Salerno through bus n. 7, 17 and 27.
It is necessary to buy a ticket before getting on the bus and validate it once on the bus to avoid fines.
Please bear in mind that passengers are checked by CSTP inspectors.
Daily tickets (€ 1,00) and season tickets (weekly € 11,60 / monthly € 27,50) may be bought at:
-the train Station;
-various tobacconists;
-the Bus Terminal (Fisciano Campus) from Monday to Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 7:15 p.m.

Before leaving
Section 3: How to apply
The University of Salerno is very pleased to welcome each year more and more international students
wishing to enjoy living in an international environment.
In order to be accepted, incoming students must be officially nominated by their home University
by email (). Soon after the nomination they will receive information about the application
procedure.
Application form deadlines(for detailed info see the attached file “application form procedure”)
- 15thJune - 1stsemester or the whole academic year
- 15th November - 2nd semester
Students from non EU countries, will receive an invitation letter from the University of Salerno after
receiving the hard copy of the Application Form and of the Learning Agreement.
Afterwards students must contact the Italian Embassy or Consulate in order to obtain the necessary Visa.
Before leaving for Italy non EU students must have:
- A valid passport
- A Visa issued by the Embassy or Consulate
- Insurance policies covering them from health and accidents problems for the whole period of stay.
residence permit (Permesso di soggiorno), which is compulsory.
The fee for the permit is approximately€ 150,00.
Section 4: Coursesand Learning Agreement
Incoming students may attend any course offered by the University of Salerno in any Department:
Important note: Courses must be chosen, through the websiteindicated above, among those
offered in the academic year in which mobilitytakes place and entered into the Learning Agreement
(components, code and credits must fully respect the academic offering of the University of Salerno in
order to be evaluated).
The academic offering of the academic year 2015/2016 will be updatedin May 2015.
The Learning Agreement must be sent to the International Office of the University of Salerno together
with the Application Form.

Section 5: Enrolment at the International Relations – Erasmus Office
Upon their arrival, incoming students have to be registered at the International Relations – Erasmus Office (campus of Fisciano, see the attached map).
The office is their first and permanent contact point. Students are alwayswelcome whenever they have academic, personal or practical difficulties.

Section 6: Assistance in finding accommodation
Private rented rooms
Students will be assisted in finding suitable accommodation in private rented roomsupon theirarrivalthrough theInternational Students’ Associations“AEGEE-Salerno” and “Erasmus Students Network”.
The cost of a single room in a private furnished flat is around € 250 per month, for a double room the price is around € 200 per month (service fees are excluded).

UniSa Halls of Residence
Incoming students may also apply for renting a room in the Halls of residence on Campus.However, a small number of rooms can be provided to incoming students and only for periods of study lasting not less thanoneacademic year (ten months).
Cost for accommodation in the Halls of Residence is € 210 per person in a three bedroom flat, € 260 per person in a one bedroom flat (service fees included).
Upon arrival
Upon their arrival students looking for accommodationare suggested to stay at the Youth Hostel “Ave Gratia Plena Minor” for the first nights.
The cost is approximately € 13,50 per night.

Section 7: Health Assistance
Studentsmay apply to the medical centre, Azienda Sanitaria Locale (ASL) Salerno 2 to choose a doctor for the period of their stay.
The office is locatedin Salerno inVia Vernieri, 14.
Requireddocuments:
- European Health Insurance Card or other form proving students have health coverage while in Italy
- Identity card or passport
Section 8: Permit of Stay (Only for Non EU students)
Within 8 days upon arrival, non-EU students must apply for a Permit of Stay (Permesso di soggiorno) through the Post Office located on the campus of Fisciano.
The student association AEGEE-Salernowill assist non-EU students in filling intheapplication.
Obtaining the Permit of Stay is compulsory and the costisapproximately € 150,00.

- Copy of all pages of the passport or identity card
- Copy of the Visa issued by the Embassy or Consulate
- Copy of the insurance policy covering the student from health and accidents problems for the whole period of his/her stay
Section 9: Academic issues – Departmental Coordinators
Departmental Coordinators for international mobility
Once registered incoming students are strongly recommended to contact their Departmental coordinator for international mobilityfor any academic issues.(see the attached list).
Learning Agreement
In case of changes, the Learning Agreement can be modified at the beginning of each semester but all changes have to be approved by the student, the sending Institution and the receiving Institution.
Important note:In case of changesthefinal version of theLearning Agreement signed by both Institutions has to be delivered tothe International Relations – Erasmus Office of the University of Salerno:
- Deadline 1st semester: within 30th October
- Deadline 2nd semester: within 30thMarch
Exams
Exams may be taken at the end of each course in the established period through a written or oral test. Important note: It is compulsory for students to register online at least ten days before the established exams dates.
Procedure to register for exams:
- Log in with username and password
- Choose from the menu on the left ‘Exam sessions’
- Follow the instructions
- Print the reminder of the reservation to show it during the exam session

Section 10: Grading system/ECTS/ECTS Grading ScaleThe results of the exams passed are given with a grade based on the national system, where the top grade is 30 and 18 is the passinggrade.
University credits (CFU) are equivalent to European credits (ECTS): 1 CFU = 1 ECTS
Section 11: Italian Language courseThe University of Salerno organises Italian language courses (L2) for incoming students. Courses last 50 hours for a total of 5 credits. The credits will be awarded to the student at the end of the course, only if he/she passes the final exam.
Important note:Students are allowed to get enrolled in only one free course.
Students wishingto improve their Italian knowledgemay enroll to other courses but for a fee.
Section 12: Academic calendarCourses are usuallyorganised in two semesters:
1st semester:

Most courses last one semester, but there are also courses that last for the whole academic year.
The beginning of each semester may vary depending on each Department. Updated information will be published on their websites.

Section 13: Students with special Needs
The office “Diritto allo Studio” deals with disability support.
Facilities for students with special needs are increasing over the years:
- Accompaniment and assistance at lectures
- Administrative assistance
- Special equipment depending on their disabilities (scanners, software jaws, taping of text books, etc.)
Each Department has its own coordinator dealing with disabled students.
Section 14: Optional activitiesAmbassador project: During their stay students may be asked to introduce to local students their countries, their institutions and their grading systems. Guidelines on how to make a presentation are given to students by the International Relations – Erasmus Office.
Students wishing to participate in the project may contact the mentioned Office.
Section 15: FacilitiesCafeteria
The University offers a catering service at the Fisciano Campus. The cafeteria is open for lunch 12:00 – 03:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday. The prices are kept low and a full meal costs € 3.00.
At the first access, students have to enroll at the Information Desk near the entrance, in order to get a personal card.

Healthcare Centre(Campus Fisciano)
On the Fisciano Campus there is a multifunctional healthcare centre offering students free general medical care. Specialist care includes medical examinations and a range of diagnostic and laboratory tests (dentist, dermatologist, gynecologist, oculist, ear, nose and throat). These services are available uponappointment by calling the Healthcare’s call centre (089 969647 – 9272).

Musical activities
The associations Musicateneo and Seventh Degree plan and implement several musical activities such as concerts, festivals, dance courses, percussion, etc involving students, teachers and staff members also from other universities (Erasmus students). The musical initiatives sponsored by the University of Salerno and local institutions expandfrom jazz to classical, from choir to blues and funky, from ethnic to dance.

Section 16: Leisure time
Sport Centres
The University has several sport centres run by CUS (Centro Universitario Sportivo) enabling students to exercise a wide range of sports on the campuses.
The Fisciano campus offers:
- a covered swimming pool
- two football grounds
- two tennis court
- a cycling and running track
The Baronissi campus offers:
- two gyms for activities such as aerobics, step aerobics, body building, etc.
- several sport halls for basketball, volleyball, rowing, table tennis, etc.
- an open air basketball court

Also in Salerno there are various public and private sports centres, some of which have agreements with the CUS, where activities such as athletics, football, volley ball, basketball, swimming, roller skating, fencing, archery, etc are offered.

AT THE END OF YOUR STAY
Section 18: At the of your stayAt the end of their stay, incoming students have to visit the International Relations – Erasmus Office to check all the information about the exams taken and to fill in an evaluation questionnaire about their mobility period.
The Transcript of Records along with the ECTS grading scale and all other documents will be sent directly to partner Universities. Students are required to provide a proper address where to send all documents.
Section 19: RecommendationStudents are recommended not to plan their flight back home the day after their last exam. Sometimes exam dates might change.
