"Jan's New Home"by Angela Shelf Medearis

Realistic fiction is a made-up story about things that could really happen. This is about a girl who must move away.

Jan's family must move. Jan is sad. She does not want to change her house or school or friends.

But she packs her things. She puts her toys and dresses and socks in a box. There are boxes everywhere!

Our time at this house is over. Jan looks back at the house. The family drives away in the car.

On the drive Jan sees horses and sheep. And she sees trees, flowers, and bees. Her family has a picnic. She feels good. The trip is fun.

They drive to the city. Now Jan sees cars and buses. She sees people rushing. She sees stores and very tall buildings.

They move into a new home. She has a new school, new friends, lots more change.

But Jan gets into her own bed. The very best things are still the same
