Flying
For those who are flying, your e-tickets should have arrived viaemail. Once you arrive at San Francisco International Airport (SFO),
you can take a shuttle to Stanford Campus. South and East Bay Shuttleis commonly used by SLAC guests and they are familiar with Stanford Campus and SLAC.The shuttle isa shared ride van service. You will be charged a rate ofaround $18.00 for one-waytransportationservice from SFO to Stanford University Campus. You will need togive the driver your campus address which is 589 Governor’s Avenue, Stanford, CA 94305. The phone number to

We will pay the cost of the shuttle, so if you decide to take a taxi, you will have to pay the additional cost.
Driving& Parking
Travel by private automobile will be reimbursed at the current government rate for mileage of $.50 per mile, up to a maximum of $350.00, but not exceeding the lowest available airfare. Please keep track of your mileage as you will need to fill out a travel reimbursement form once you arrive. If you plan to park on campus, you will need to purchase a residential parking permit for $4.50/day or $23.50/month. You can pick up a parking permit at theGovernor’s Corner Conference Front Desk at 589 Governor’s Ave. on the Stanford Campus. Checking In
Everyone should arrive on Sunday, June 20th. For those who are driving, please try to arrive by 6:00 p.m. We will be hosting a welcome pizza mixer at 6 pm. Check-in at the Governor’s Cornerwill be from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.You will be checking in at the Conference Front Desk located at 589 Governor’s Avenue, Stanford, CA. There is also an After Hours Number for assistance on campus. That number is (650) 725-1602. If you are arriving after 8:00 p.m., please let us know in advance. Contact Shannon Ferguson at .
More about Jenkins Hall
You will be housed on the Stanford campus in shared suites. There are two shared kitchenettes (in Jenkins and Marx) for use by the SULI students. The suites and dorms on Stanford Campus are not air conditioned. All students will be responsible for the cleanliness and condition of the rooms as well as the kitchenettes and living room areas. You are required to vacuum yourroom once a week. A vacuum is available from the front desk.We will have a meeting on your first day to set the ground rules and guidelines for sharing this space.We collected a key deposit in the amount of $125.00. Your deposit will be returned to you once your key is returned at the completion of your stay.

What should I bring with me?
At SLAC, dress is quite casual, so your normal school attire will also be appropriate.
For the weekends, there are many things to do. If exploring the mountains or visiting the beach interests you, hiking shoes and a backpack are a good idea.
The weather in San Francisco and at SLAC is often cold because of the summer fog. Mark Twain said it best when he said, "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco!" You can
expect each morning and evening to be slightly
overcast or foggy and about 65 degrees; with the daytime temperatures generally range between 80-95
degrees with lots of sun. Be sure to bring a warm jacket and sweat shirts in addition to shorts and t-shirts.
Please do not bring more luggage than you can carry yourself. You don't need much to survive eight weeks in the San Francisco Bay Area.

How Do I Get Paid?
You will receive your stipend check every two weeks. Your first check will be available July 9thand every two weeks thereafter. Please pick up your paycheck from the Human Resources Office located at Building 41, Room 240D from the hours of (10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.) Please note that your checks will not be direct deposited into your bank account.
Linens
A linen pack which includes a pillow, pillowcase, a sheet, towels, and a blanket will be provided for your stay on campus. You are responsible for laundering your linens. A $30 deposit was collected from you for linens and will be returned to you once the linens are returned at the end of your stay.You may want to bring an extra blanket, as the nightsare cool. Linenpackets will be issued to you from the Conference Front Desk at Governor’s Cornerat the time of check-in.
Laundry
Laundry facilities are available in your building at no cost.

Where do I eat?
Weplan to have aninformal pizza dinneron June 20th. You will be having a continental breakfast at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, June 21st, your first day at SLAC,and a lunch withyour mentor on your second day at SLAC, Tuesday, June 22nd. All other meals will be your responsibility.
You will have access to kitchen facilities in your
residence hall. If you don’t want to cook, there aremany other options on campus. Lakeside Dining is

There is a reasonably priced cafeteria at SLAC. SLAC’S Cafeteria is open Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. You can review a sample menu and prices at:
Where can I Bank?
Many students continue to use their current banks while at SLAC. If you do not have an account with a bank in the area, there are several banks close by. Bank of America, Stanford Federal Credit Union, and Wells Fargo have offices or ATMS at Tresider Union. Bank of America has an office close to SLAC.There is also an ATM machine at the entrance to the Panofsky Auditorium by the cafeteria at SLAC.
Transportation while at SLAC
The Marguerite is Stanford University’s complimentary public shuttle system which traverses the campus Monday through Friday all year(except university holidays). The SLAC line operates betweenSLAC and Hoover Tower by way of the Oak
Creek Apartments located on Sand Hill Road, West Campus Residences, and the Science & Engineering Quad, from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., every 20 minutes. The Marguerite Shuttle also goes to the Palo Alto

For those of you planning to drive here, you can park your car at SLAC at no cost, but you are required to register your car with SLAC security. If you decide to park your car at SLAC campus in lieu of parking at at Jenkins Hall on campus, access to your car will be limited by the Marguerite Schedule (weekdays).
Some students bring or rent bicycles. Be sure to bring a lock and helmet for your bike. The following bike shops rent bikes:
Will I have internet access?
At SLAC, you will have free access to our network. We are currently in the process of setting up your accounts. If you have not already read the “Use of SLAC Information Resources” and faxed your signed Declarations Page, please do so soon. We need your signature to set up your account at SLAC.
In your residence suites at Jenkins, you can connect to the Stanford Residence Wi-Fi network, but must first be registered and pay a fee. For an entire summer, the fee is $75. If you would like to have this access, please register at the following site:

WillI have access to a gym and library?
You will have access to Stanford University’s Gym.More specifically, you will receive a yellow
Conference ID card in your Welcome Packet when you arrive. This card will serve to identify you as a
Stanford summer conferee, and will allow you to use the gym and other athletic facilities (for $5/day or
$25/7-days; day passes can be purchased from the Arrillaga facility on Stanford campus).
You will receive a Courtesy Borrower’s Card for the Green Library. The library requires that you fill out
an application for library privileges. We will have these cards available during SULI orientation.
