Chapter 1: The Project

National Highway 28 (NH-28) forms a part of the proposed widening of 4/6 lanes of existing National Highway East West corridor from Porbandar (Gujarat) to Silchar (Assam) involving different States. It passes through Gorakhpur City with major bridge over Rapti River. This stretch is proposed to be explored for rehabilitation and widening of existing carriageway as well as develop other bypass options for congested areas.

Thus in order to provide a better level of service to vehicular traffic & to divert the traffic from city outskirts, it has been decided to constructing Gorakhpur bypass. Gorakhpur bypass is the major bypass road in the Gorakhpur city. It’s started at Km. 251.700 & ends at 279.800 of NH-28.

Nearly 32.270 Km. Bypass section of NH-28, starts from Km. 0.000 near Kalesar village and ends at 32.270 near Jagadishpur village.
