The Sign of the Coming of Jesus Christ.

There was a Sign that the Shepherds were to see regarding the Coming of the Messiah Jesus when He came the First time,and it was that they would see a Baby wrapped in swaddling. There is also going to be a Sign when Jesus comes the Second time as the King and that is that He will be seen coming in the Clouds of Heaven with Power and Great Glory.

In Matthew Chapter 24 we read about a question that the Disciples asked Jesus in regards to theSign of His Coming.

Mat 24:3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? andwhat shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

Jesus answered this question in Matthew 24:30

Mat 24:30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

I want to speak about the part of that question which is “What is the Sign of your coming?

The Disciples wanted to know what the Sign (Singular) would be regarding Jesus coming (Coming) again.

They did not ask for Signs, No!

They asked for The Sign (Singular) of His Coming (Singular).

The Greek word that is used in Matthew 24:3 for “Sign” is Semeion and it is the exact same Greek word that was used for the Sign when Jesus came to earth the first time as a Baby.

The Shepherds were told that the Sign (Semeion) which is singular would be that the Messiah would be a Baby wrapped in Swaddling in a Manger.

The Greek word Semeion means “an indication” and can be an indication that is natural or supernatural.

The Semeion/Indication of Jesus when He came the first time was that He would be found wrapped in swaddling clothes in a manger.

There are many Prophecies in Scripture about Jesus First Coming and there are also many Prophecies regarding His Second Coming.

In Psalm 2:7 we read of God having a Son and God declaring that He has begotten a Son.

In Psalm 2:8-9 we read that God is going to give His Son the Heathen as an Inheritance and the Uttermost parts of the earth as His Possession, the Son of God will break the Heathen with a Rod of Iron and shall dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.

Psa2:7 I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

Psa2:8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.

Psa2:9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.

We know that this Prophecy in Psalms 2 is clearly speaking of Jesus but it has only been partially fulfilled, we know that Jesus was born on Earth but we are still waiting for Him to return and fulfil the rest of the Prophecy.

The Sign of Jesus Coming the First Time.

I want to look at the First Coming of Jesus Christ when He came as a Baby, and how the Sign (Semeion) of Christ to the Shepherds would be that they would find a Baby wrapped in Swaddling.

Yes the Saviour of the World, the Messiah of the City of David would first come as a Baby.

In Luke Chapter 2 we read of the Shepherds being in the fields and they were watching their flocks at night.

Luk2:8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

Luk2:9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

I will place in Bullet Points the Amazing events that took place on the Shepherds at the fields of the flock:

The Glory of the Lord shone around them.
The Angel of the Lord appeared.
A Declaration is made that the Christ (Messiah) is born this day and He is the Lord.
The Child that is born is the Saviour and He is born in the City of David.
There was a multitude of Heavenly Host with the Angel of the Lord and they were praising God.
They were praising God by saying “Glory to God in the Highest and on Earth Peace and Good Will towards men.”
In Luke Chapter 2 we read of the Shepherds being in the fields and they were watching their flocks at night.

What an amazing experience and sight that must have been for the Shepherds, but what I find that is so amazing is what the Angel of the Lord said about the Sign (Semeion) of Christ the Messiah Coming will be.

In Luke 2:12 The Shepherds were told that the Sign (Semeion) would be a Baby wrapped in swaddling clothes and in a manger.

Luk2:12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

In Luke 2:16 We read of how the Shepherds saw the Sign (Semeion) of Jesus the Baby being wrapped in swaddling clothes and in a manger.

Luk2:16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.

In Matthew Chapter 2 the Birth of Jesus is also recorded, there were wise men that came from the East of Jerusalem and they saw the Star in the East that signalled that the Birth of the King of the Jews had taken place.

Mat 2:1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,

Mat 2:2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

These Wise Men were looking for a new born child in the town of Bethlehem in Judea as prophesied in Scripture.

This Prophecy is mentioned in Matthew 2:4-6

Mat 2:4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.

Mat 2:5 And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,

Mat 2:6 And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, art not the least among the princes of Judah: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.

The Wise Men saw King Herod before they went to Bethlehem as recorded in Matthew 2:7-8.

Mat 2:7 Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.

Mat 2:8 And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.

The Wise Men saw the Star and entered into the place where Jesus was present and they came and worshipped the child Jesus.

Mat 2:9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.

Mat 2:10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.

Mat 2:11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.

Mat 2:23 And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.

In the same way that the Shepherds came looking for the Sign (Semeion) of the Messiah the Saviour, being a baby wrapped in swaddling in a manger, the Wise Men came looking for the King of the Jews and they were also looking for a new born child.

When Jesus came the First Time He was fulfilling Prophecy, the Shepherds and the Wise Men travelled to Bethlehem and came to where Jesus was, they came to see the Sign of the Messiah.

The Sign of Jesus Coming the Second Time.

The Coming of Jesus was Powerful when He came the First time with the Angel of the Lord and the Angelic Host appearing to the Shepherds and the Star that appeared to the Wise Men and the finding of the Baby Jesus.

But there is a Sign that is given about Jesus when He comes again the Second Time and it is more Mightier and more Powerful compared to His First Coming.

I want to now go and look at what is written in Matthew Chapter 24:3.

The Disciples asked Jesus what is the Sign (Semeion) of your Coming?

It is the exact same question we ask of Jesus today in 2018, what is the Sign of your coming?

Jesus answers this question many verses later in Matthew 24:30 when He says “And then shall appear the SIGN (Semeion) of the Son of Man in Heaven” let us look at the Verses 29-31 and see what Jesus has to say.

Mat 24:29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

Mat 24:31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

Jesus makes it very clear that the Sign (Semeion) of His Coming is that He will be coming in the Clouds of Heaven with Power and Great Glory and His Angels will also appear with the sound of a Trumpet, Jesus also tells us when that Sign (Semeion) will be seen in the sequence of events leading up to His Coming.

There are many Believers today that ignore the question that the Disciples asked regarding “what is the Sign of Christs coming?” These same Believers also ignore how Jesus also said “And then shall appear the Sign (Semeion) of the Son of Man when He comes.”

Jesus does not tell us the exact Day or the exact Hour of that Day when the Sign will appear in regards to His Coming, but He did tell us when the Sign would appear in regards to the sequence of events on earth.

We must Trust in the words of Jesus Christ and believe what He says.

Jesus also describes what His coming will be like in Matthew 24:27 when He says that He will appear like Lightning in the sky, the same way that Lightning lightens up the sky from the East to the West Jesus will also Lighten up the Sky from the East to the West.

Mat 24:27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

I want to now look at the comparisons of when Jesus came the First Time compared to His Coming the Second Time.

The Sign of Jesus First Coming.

The Angel of the Lord and the Angelic Host of Heaven appeared to the Shepherds before they walked to where Jesus was.
The Sign of Jesus the Messiah and saviour First Coming for the Shepherds was that He would be found as a Baby wrapped in swaddling in a manger in Bethlehem.
A Star led the Wise Men to the place of where they would find the newborn Jesus Christ the King of the Jews in Bethlehem.
Jesus was physically on earth as a Baby and the people walked to where He was manifest.
Only a small amount of people met Jesus the Baby.

TheSign of Jesus Second Coming.

The Sign of Jesus the Messiah and Saviour Second Coming is that He will appear in the Clouds of Heaven with Power and Great Glory.
Jesus will lighten up the Sky from the east to the West just like Lightning.
The Trumpet will sound.
The Angels of Heaven will also appear.
The Angels will be gathering together all of the Elect of God from the 4 Points of Heaven and also from the 4 Points of the Earth to meet Jesus in the Air.
No one can simply walk to where Jesus will be, they will have to be gathered by the Angels of God so that they can meet Jesus in the Air.
The Angels will be Gathering together all in Christ from Heaven and earth to Meet Jesus at one place in the Air.
When Jesus appears there will be all of the Angels and also all of the Elect from Heaven and from Earth.

What a Mighty and Powerful Gathering that will be!

Only those in God can meet Jesus in that place of Worship!

Paul talks about that same Day of being Gathered Together with Jesus Christ in 2 Thessalonians 2:1-8

Paul talks about that same Day of us all being Gathered together to meet Jesus in 2 Thessalonians Chapter 2:1-12, we will look at what Paul says about this day. Paul even begs us to not be deceived about that Day of us being gathered together with Jesus because it cannot just happen at any second.

2Th 2:1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,

2Th 2:2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.

2Th 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

2Th 2:4 Whoopposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

2Th 2:5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?

2Th 2:6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.

2Th 2:8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

What Paul describes in 2 Thessalonians 2 is in complete Harmony with what Jesus describes in Matthew 24.

Paul states clearly that Jesus will not come and gather us together to Himself until the Apostasy and the Revealing of the Son of Perdition takes place and when the Son of Perdition is revealed Jesus will come and destroy that Son of Perdition with the Brightness of His Coming.

We will be gathered together to meet Jesus when He comes to destroy the Son of Perdition just like Paul Prophesied. If the Son of Perdition is destroyed when Jesus comes to gather us together to himself that MUST mean that the Tribulation Period is completed.

No Son of Perdition, No Tribulation!

This is in complete Harmony with what Jesus said in Matthew 24.

Jesus clearly said that the Sign (Semeion) of His Coming will be seen after the Tribulation Period is Completed, this means that the time of Authority that the Son of Perdition/ Antichrist has been given for the 3 ½ Years has come to an end, he will no longer have the authority against the Saints of God.

The Son of Perdition/Antichrist will have no Authority and no Power when Jesus Christ comes, Jesus will have the Authority as King and Lord to Destroy the Son of Perdition and also Bind Satan for 1000 Years when He shall come in Power and Glory with His Angels.

You now know from what Jesus has Prophesied in Matthew 24 that the Sign of His Coming will not be seen until sometime after the Tribulation Period is completed.

The Sign of His Coming is seen sometime after the events are seen in the Sun, Moon and Stars.

I beg of you read and believe what Jesus said as written below.

Mat 24:30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

Mat 24:31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
