Value of Life Essay Checklist

Review the essay that you turned in for the Value of Life Module. In order to get the best grade possible, make sure that you have addressed all of the items on the list below.

MLA Format:

Name, date and block is in the left hand corner

Entire essay is double-spaced (including name, date and block)

Starting with page 2 the writer’s last name and page number appear on the top right-

hand corner

Bad examples: Smith page 2

Smith (2)

Smith – 2

Good example:Smith 2

Paragraphs are indented 5 spaces (or one tab)

Margins are left-justified (not centered or right-justified)

Font is size 12 (Times New Roman or Arial only)

Title:

Essay includes an interesting title

Bad examples: Value of Life Essay, English Paper, Essay Prompt

Title Format

-Titles should be centered

-Font size 12 (Times New Roman or Arial only)

-Capitalize the main words of the title

-Titles are not underlined, in bold or in quotes

In-text Citations:

Essay includes quotes from the articles

Quotes include citation information (last name and page number)

Example: “A life is precious and should not have a dollar value” (Jones 3).

Sources are listed on the Works Cited Page

Work Cited Page:

The title on this page is Works Cited –not underlined, not bold, not in quotes

Works Cited is centered at the top of the page

Entries are in alphabetical order

Entries are in the correct format (see OWL at Purdue for more information)

Works Cited page includes last name of the writer and page number on the top right-

hand corner

Grammar/Punctuation:

There are no spelling errors.

There – locationto - preposition

They’re – They aretoo - also

Their- belongs to them

There are no sentences that sound awkward.

There are no fragments.

There are no run-ons. Correct run-ons by creating separate sentences or using a

semicolon (;).

All sentences start with a capital letter and are punctuated correctly.

Content:

There is a clear thesis.

There are body paragraphs that include examples to support the thesis.

There is a refutation paragraph where the writer addresses the opposing viewpoint.

There is a conclusion paragraph that connects appropriately to the thesis.

Requirements for the Paper:

A rough draft with revisions is included.

A completed Peer Editing sheet is included.

Essay is spell checked and grammar checked.

Writer has re-read the essay to check for errors before turning in the paper.

Writer has checked to make sure that they have not plagiarized. Any quotes used

from the articles have been appropriately cited.

Essay addresses all of the requirements for a C paper as listed on the Value of Life

Essay Rubric.

As the writer of this paper, I verify that I have completed everything on this checklist and I am turning in my best piece of writing. I understand that if I have plagiarized this paper, I will receive a zero and will not be allowed to re-do this assignment.
