Math Information 2013

Guidelines

·  Reminder: do not start with page 1 -180 teaching days and maybe 400 pages in the text book. Need to be selective. This is done by using the Guidelines and Priority Topics as a guide.

·  Teachers should be on new material the second or third week of school.

·  Review can happen along with introducing new material.

This can be done with drill, board work, use of maintenance papers as review

Math Guidelines and Plans:

·  Teachers put in Guideline reference along with the page number and other information in the plan.

That the students will be able to divide 3 and 4 digit dividends by 2 digit divisors

Pacing Papers (Priority Topics)

·  Once a quarter have the math coordinator send around a copy of the pacing papers so that teachers could mark the date on which they presented the Priority Topics. (teachers would have a copy in their plan book and just record information on the paper that would come around)

This could be kept in the Principal’s office to review or some other location.

This is a way for the Principal and coordinators to help teachers be mindful of pacing.

Math Folders

Each child would have a folder with the Problem Solving Strategies stapled to them and an example of problem solving once a quarter. These would be stapled together at the end of the year.

Benchmarks

Students in grades 3-8 should be taking the Benchmark tests. They are available on Sr. Anita’s e-Board http://sanita.eboard.comin the Benchmark folder, the PASSWORK is Diocese. There are three forms of the Benchmarks, they can be used interchangeably. The students answer/recording sheet is put in the math portfolios at the end of the year.
