Burns Night Dinner and Social Evening – January 23rd
A brilliant, well attended night, with highland dancers, a piper, tasty haggis , an ode to Robert Burns and” Tam ‘O Shanter” (a tale of drunkenness and downfall), which I read in my rather rusty Scottish accent.
Many thanks to the piper Sandy Whitfield, the local country dance group and to Terry and Jan, who did most of the catering.
After the meal, most of us joined in with the Scottish dancing. Phew!!
Hopefully, we’ll organise another Burns night next year on the 22nd January and I’ll use my “Scottish connections” to dig out more on Burns and find another of his poems.
AGM and Wine/Cheese Tasting - 26th February
The Rose Bowl for the person, who made the greatest contribution to the Twinning association, went to John Higgins. Jan Piper was presented with a bouquet of flowers for her catering /organising efforts over the last year.
The committee was voted in and is shown at the end of this newsletter.
The wine and cheese tasting was great fun Terry Piper had excelled himself in providing wines from lesser known parts of the world and lesser known cheeses from the UK and Europe. There was also a quiz about wines and cheeses. The quiz was won by Nigel Cook
One of the cheeses was wrapped in nettles (it tasted really good). One which tasted like cheesy Christmas pud and one which someone described as soap (someone else thought it was delicious).
