Getting to Know Yourself and Your Peers => Worksheet
Learning to become a leader can be difficult, and often confusing. You may find at times that you need an extra push or guidance from a role model to help you reach the type of leader you want to be. One of the very first steps in becoming a leader is discovering who you are. Start by thinking about your life, how do you see yourself and your life right now? Perhaps there are a few things in your life you wish to improve, or maybe there are a few things that you are quite happy about and would rather work to maintain; whatever it may be these are aspects of your life that you can work towards strengthening so that you can be the best leader you can be.
Completing the following short activities will get you off on a good start.
1. In the space provided, simply answer I agree or I disagree with the following statements:
__________ I have control over my life
__________ My parent(s) or guardian(s) support and love me
__________ I have formed supportive and trustworthy relationships with
friends at school
__________ I am hurt by the cliques that don’t include me
__________ I am confused about what I want to become in life
__________ Sometimes I feel shy and like I have little confidence
2. Good for you! You have a great group of friends at school, but sometimes feel alone and confused. That’s okay too. Sometimes in life you may experience happy and exciting events, but other times you may not. Start by understanding that good and bad things happen that are often out of your control. Now, make two lists of at least five things that have happened in your life; one list for good things and one list for bad. Think about things like childhood memories, friendships with your neighbours or classmates, achievements or disappointments, and main events at home or at school.
