Dear Parent/carer,
This is your guide to attending Skills Northern Ireland.
Do you know what choices are available for your child once they leave school? Do you know how you can support them to make informed choices and find accurate and up-to-date information about careers, training, courses and qualifications?
Were you aware that the Skills Northern Ireland event brings all of this information together under one roof, and that you are invited to come along with your child, for free. We would recommend going along during the evening session, to really get the most from your visit.
If you do plan on bringing your child along to Skills Northern Ireland this year, take a look at the below for tips on how you can make the most of your visit. You can meet employers, colleges, training providers and advisers who offer opportunities for young people getting ready for their next step.
Encourage your child to:
· Visit the different stands, talk to the exhibitors and try the activities
· Find out what the various companies do, how they recruit staff and what they can offer
· Think about what they enjoy doing when considering their career
· Look out for the types of courses and jobs that will challenge them
· Explore lots of different options, rather than just their ideal choice
· Talk to the exhibitors. They are at the event to discover talent and will welcome any queries
After the event, take time to discuss what you discovered, what exhibitors you want to contact directly and which open days you want to attend. If your child was particularly interested in a certain company or organisation, encourage them to contact them and follow them on social media for further information.
