A note from the Editor Chris Myers
We send condolences to the family of Emily Rushby, who sadly passed away recently.
There is plenty going on in the Hall again, the Open Mic Night sounds like it will prove good entertainment.
The Beetle Drive, arranged to add funds to the Senior Citizens Christmas Lunch Fund was great fun but unfortunately not well supported, there being only 20 people there and some of those not Langworth residents.
If the free lunch for senior residents is to continue beyond this year funds have got to be raised. £727.70 was paid to The George for the lunch in December 2012 with 41 residents attending, there was £795.53 left in the bank which will pay for this years lunch – beyond that ??
Thanks go to Chris King and Sheila Burnett for the hard work put in to arranging the Beetle Drive, the ladies who prepared and gave food and those who donated a raffle prize.
The deadline for entries for the April issue will be 20th March.

SUDBROOKE LIVES FIRST RESPONDERS
Registered Charity no. 1098364
The group offers emergency care and Basic Life Support in Stainton, Scothern, Langworth and Sudbrooke. A Responder may be called out when you dial 999 in an emergency.
We currently have seven qualified responders and two recruits are currently in training. We are always seeking new members to train as Responders. You can apply if you are aged 18 or over and able to drive.
Thanks go to local businesses which hold our collecting tins. These are an essential part of the fund raising which keeps the group going and helps to pay for training and equipment. Donations from local W.I. branches and Ladies’ Clubs are also gratefully received. We are grateful to The Bottle and Glass at Scothern and Lakeside at Langworth for the use of a room for our meetings.
If you feel able to support the group in any way please contact Mike Johnson,
Co-ordinator, on 01522 750878. Further details on Sudbrooke Parish Council website: http://parishes.lincolnshire.gov.uk/Sudbrooke/
The group can also provide First Aid cover for events in the community. If you need First Aid cover for your event please contact the Co-ordinator.
Report of Parish Council meeting held on 5th February 2013
Inconsiderate parking in the village – Several incidents of inconsiderate or obstructive parking/blockingoffootways had been raised by residents to the Parish Council members. This had resulted in persons with poor sight or people with buggies having to walk into the road. This is clearly not acceptable and following the advice from the local Police the matter would be referred to the Civil Parking Enforcement Officers of the County Council.
They will be visiting the village to issue tickets – Watch out!
Level Crossing – The surface of the level crossing continues to show no improvement, only getting worse. Although the Parish Council are constantly reporting this to Network rail but any person can ring and make a report about its condition/holes/bumps etc – the number to ring is 0845 7114141.
Police Matters relating to the village – The theft of a pedal cycle from the village was reported.
Horses running loose on the main A158 – this was again discussed but it appears that the Police are unable to do anything other than put them back into the field. Members stressed that they felt sorry for the horses - obviously frightened by the traffic, and for the driver who will eventually hit one.
Grit Spreading – During the snowy weekend back in January did you notice Clive Buttress and John Dearman out with the Snow Blower? Thanks must go to Clive and John, they worked hard clearing footpaths and followed up by gritting. Unfortunately it was too much for the grit spreader (which is really for spreading fertiliser) and it is beyond its useful life. However a more robust piece of equipment has been sourced and funded by District Councillor Chris Darcel’s District Council Initiative Fund. Hopefully it won’t be needed this year but it will be ready and waiting for next winter.
Grit Bins - Although we now have additional grit bins in the village supplied by the County Council, it has been noticed that the grit has disappeared rapidly. Residents are reminded of the following taken from the County Council website:-
“Can I use the grit for personal use, such ason my own drive? I’ve seen some people takinglots away in vans before.”
No. The grit must be used on a public highway so itbenefits as many people in the community as possible. There are over 714,000 residents in Lincolnshire, so if everyone took grit for their own property, we would soonrun out!
To take great quantities of salt away from a grit bin foruse elsewhere is theft, and a highly irresponsible one atthat. If you see anyone loading salt into a vehicle fromyour local grit bin, please report it to the Police.
Date of next Parish Council meeting – Tuesday 5th March 2013.

“Educating Rita”
Susan (who initially calls herself Rita), fed up with the routine of her work and social life, seeks inner growth by signing up to Open University course in English Literature. Rita's tutor, Frank, is a middle-aged, alcoholic academic who has taken on the tutorship to pay for his drink. The two have an immediate and profound effect on one another. The play tells the story of Rita's development and growth as she is "educated" and the effect that the process has on Frank and his attitude to education and his own life and career.

SCOTHERN PRE-SCHOOL
We have been having lots of fun at Scothern Pre-school since September. Autumn is a lovely season for the children to look at signs of change in our environment. The children had a walk to a local resident who has a huge garden for the children to collect conkers and leaves of varying shades of colours. They made a beautiful picture with everything they had collected and pictures they had drawn.
The children have been enjoying traditional fairy stories and made additional props to go with the Billy Goats Gruff puppets, which included a bridge they built from various construction materials. After reading the Gingerbread Man story the children made some scrummy ginger biscuits.
Halloween, Divali and Bonfire night were celebrated by dressing up and through their artwork.
The children worked very hard at their Christmas Nativity, learning the songs and wearing costumes for the part they had chosen. The performance was fantastic and as they had all worked hard they deserved the Christmas party with a special visit from Father Christmas for being so good.

Welton Patients and Doctors Association - Janet Goddard
The PDA Spring lunch will be held in Welton Village Hall on Friday 12th April. Tickets are now available priced £5.50 and can be obtained from the dispensary, Welton health Centre or Roy Minnitt (860980). There will be the usual raffle, cake stall and sale of books (donations to any of these are most welcome). The doors will open at 11.45am and the bar will be open for the purchase of drinks.
PDA Transport Scheme -Following much discussion, and due to the ever increasing cost of fuel, the decision has been taken to increase the charge per mile to 35p with effect from 1st April 2013. This will apply to all journeys undertaken by PDA drivers except those to the Health Centre.
To make the cost of transport to the Health Centre fair to all regardless of where the patient lives and where the driver has to travel from, we have devised a fixed (flat) rate charge per village. A list of village charges is shown below and will also be displayed on the PDA notice board in the Health Centre.
We hope that everyone who uses the Transport Scheme will appreciate why these decisions have been taken.
Appeal for Volunteer Drivers - Anyone interested in becoming a new driver to transport patients to the Health Centre please give me a ring -01673 862570 - The only requirements are a road worthy vehicle, a clean driving licence and a desire to put something back into the community.
Dr Barton’s leaving event will be held at 7.30pm on Tuesday 19th March in Welton Village Hall. The bar will be open for the purchase of drinks and the PDA Committee will provide a light buffet for those attending. There is now a collection box at Welton Health Centre for those wishing to contribute to a leaving gift in appreciation of the many years of service Dr Barton has given to the Welton Doctors Practice and a book to write your good wishes to Dr Barton.
