Role title:Volunteer English Tutors - English Language Support Program for Asylum seekers

Timing:Monday 10:00-12:00pm

Starting:Currently running during school terms

Location:Visy Cares Hub Sunshine- 80B Harvester Rd

Commitment:Ongoing

PROGRAM SUMMARY

Jesuit Community College is a Registered Training Organisation and Learn Local organisation providing people with real skills for life, learning and work. We help individuals, and by extension their families and communities, reach their full potential.

The English Language program involves working with adults who are seeking asylum.The program supports people new to Australia to develop their English following the direction of the learner’s needs and interests.

POSITION DETAILS

Assist in the tutoring program supporting the staff member and participants as needed

Direct learning ‘one on one’ or in small groups guided by instructions and resources given by EAL teacher

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Community spirited with a passion to encourage others to achieve their best.

Flexible and adaptable, assisting where and as needed during the session time.

Patient and open to learn about yourself and others.

Good Microsoft Office Skills.

Ability to take direction and follow through with tasks and deliver on time.

Ability to be flexible and adaptable, work with a range of people including

Build rapport with a range of people while being open and aware of cultural concerns

DESIRED EXPERIENCE

Genuine interest in supporting women from a broad range of non-English speaking backgrounds.

Demonstrated teamwork and willingness to take on a range of tasks and activities as requested.

Patience and ability to tutor and encourage learners.

Active listening skills.

Strong verbal and written communications skills.

Ability to work independently to achieve the tasks.

Committed to regular attendance and task accomplishment.

TRAINING PROVIDED

Training will be provided.

CONFIRMED VOLUNTEERS WILL BE REQUIRED TO:

Attend an interview.

Complete the Jesuit Social Services Volunteer application.

Agree to a Police and Working with Children check.
