JOB DESCRIPTION:

Post Title: Workshop Facilitator (Carpenter/Trainer)

Reporting to: Training Coordinator

Job Purpose:

  • To support the Re:store furniture shop by ensuring that where possible damaged and donated items of furniture are repaired or renovated and new items fit for sale created from obsolete wood and other materials.
  • To engage up to twotrainees at any one time in the workshop and deliver basic training and mentoring in furniture repairs and general carpentry skills.
  • To provide support to the re:build team undertaking general building and DIY, directly supervising one trainee whilst on site.

Principal terms and conditions:

This position is a permanent post at 37.5 hours per week (across 5 days, 8/9am to 4/5pm, times to be negotiated), based at 8 Filwood Broadway in Bristol. We will consider job share applicants for this post.

The starting salary for the post will be £21,762 per annum. Progression within the pay band isdependent on annually appraised performance against a clearly defined role profile for the post.We offer a work place pension with the Peoples Pension – currently employees contribute 1% of their salary and re:work contributes 2%. These percentages will change in April 2018.

The post may require occasional work at evenings and weekends which would be redressed through time off in lieu. The post is subject to a six month probationary period.

The full time annual leave entitlement for this post is 20 days per yearplus bank holidays.

The post holder will be working with a diverse client group, mainly young people who are struggling in an academic setting and occasionally adult volunteers who have been long term unemployed.

The successful applicant will be subject to a Disclosure & Barring Service check (formerly CRB check) and any unspent convictions should be disclosed. However, disclosure will NOT lead to automatic rejection of applicants, depending on the nature of their convictions.

Applicants must have a full clean driving licence with more than 1 year’s driving experience.

KEY TASKS:

  • To support the Re:store furniture shop by ensuring that where possible damaged and donated items of furniture are repaired or renovated and new items fit for sale created from obsolete wood and other materials.
  • To engage up to two trainees at any one time in the workshop and deliver basic training and mentoring in furniture repairs and general carpentry skills.
  • To provide support to the re:build team undertaking general building and DIY, directly supervising one trainee whilst on site.
  • To support gardening and shop staff when required.
  • To engage fully with the promotion and further development of re:store and re:work as a whole.
  • To work with the trainees and staff of re:store to find innovative ways of reusing and recycling furniture and other items traditionally considered as “waste”.

Legal

  • To ensure, in coordination with management, that Re:work Ltd complies with the requirements of the Health and Safety Executive legislation.

General

  • To provide general assistance as required to help with aspects of running the organisation

Person Specification

Essential / Desirable
Experience /
  • Demonstrated experience of carpentry and furniture restoration
/
  • C & G or NVQ in Carpentry

  • Experience of mentoring and working with others in a workshop environment

  • General building and DIY skills

Education /
  • Educated to basic standard of English/Maths
/
  • Other relevant qualifications

Technical Skills /
  • Understanding of Health and Safety legislation including use of tools, NEBOSH / IOSH / etc)

Communication and Interpersonal /
  • Able to motivate client groups to make positive changes to their life styles

  • Good listening and communication skills

Planning and Organisation /
  • Proven ability to prioritise and plan workshop activities

  • Ability to organise own work load
