Dance Class Descriptions
Kinderdance:
Age 3-4 yrs: Kinderdance is a 45 minute class teaching pre-ballet, creative movement, and tap (must be 3 by September 1). This class is designed to develop coordination, balance, rhythm, and self expression through songs and simple dance movements. Students learn to use the body and imagination to creatively express the dynamics of music. 5 year old students are introduced to classical ballet steps and more in-depth movement to create an exciting atmosphere for a fulfilling learning experience.
Ballet / Tap Combination Classes:
Age 5-8 yrs: This is a one hour class that includes ½ hour of ballet instruction and ½ hour of tap instruction.
Classical Ballet Classes:
Age 9 yrs and up: One hour of classical ballet techniques and movement.
Jazz / Tap Combination Classes:
Age 7 yrs and up: A one and a half hour class of Jazz and Tap style dancing. Students may choose to take the full 1 ½ hour class or only 45 minutes of Jazz or Tap.
Lyrical / Modern Classes:
Age 10 yrs and up: This hour and 15 minute class is a merging of jazz and ballet styles and techniques. An additional ballet class is recommended with this class.
Hip Hop Classes:
Age 8 yrs and up: This very popular style has evolved from jazz, modern and many other styles of dance. The regular Hip Hop class lasts for one hour. The Competition Hip Hop Class will practice two times a week for one hour and 45 minutes each night.
*Students may be allowed to begin a class before the recommended age after receiving approval from the instructor.
*Open / Drop-In Classes will also be available in all of the above styles (as time is available) for anyone to come and enjoy. Pre-registration with the gym is required however you may attend any drop-in class without advance notice. Open / Drop-In Class fees must be paid before the class begins.
There will be competition teams available in other dance styles such as jazz also. Competition team members will be chosen from the regular dance class after the 2nd week of class. These competition dancers may have additional classes on Saturday and/or Sunday and will incur an additional fee.
