Happy Friday!
October 16, 2015
It has been a super week at Meridian I.S.D. Our great staff started the week off on Monday afternoon in staff development by putting in great effort to learn more about sheltered instruction. Sheltered instruction is a process to help build scaffolding for struggling learners so that they are able to learn vocabulary better. Even though this program is aimed at enhancing the learning skills of English Language Learners the activities are great for all students because it enhances learning.
It was impressive to see the staff in there college attire on Monday as well. This fantastic endeavor encourages our students to ask questions about going to college. This is particularly important for our students who will be first generation college students because the more exposure that they get to these ideas the more likely they are to attend college and better themselves and their families.
On Tuesday our fifth graders did a super job of presenting the first elementary showcase of the school year to our parents and community members. These students had a great time with this community engagement event. These types of events are important in order to strengthen the bond between the home and school.
It was a fantastic Wednesday as several of our students competed in the district cross country meet in Waco. Latham Hensley and Danny Cassidy advanced to the regional cross country meet on Monday, October 26, 2015. This sport takes strength of will and fortitude in order to succeed and all of our runners need to be congratulated for taking part in this demanding activity.
This week our wonderful students showed their hearts at the “pink out” pep rally raising money to contribute in the fight against breast cancer. The pep rally was outstanding and we found out that Mr. Booth looks pretty sharp in a tutu.
I want to encourage everyone to continue to give their best efforts toward making Meridian I. S. D. the best place to raise children in the state of Texas. Every day I see our staff making a difference in the lives of our most precious resource, our children. Those of you with a little tread worn off the ole’ tire know that they grow up way too fast. Today students will be tomorrow’s leaders before you know it. Thank you for your hard work and commitment!
