Description of work involved / Volunteers are needed to assist with invasive plant removal from designated areas of the site. The project consists of manually digging up and bagging invasive plants, especially snake plant (Sansevieria hyacinthoides) from the site.
Hours volunteers can work / Saturday, December 9, 2017 – 8:30 a.m. to noon
Level of difficulty
1=easy
5=physically demanding / Moderate to physically demanding difficulty, depending on activity and weather. The work may be performed in areas of heavily overgrown vegetation.
Skills required / Basic knowledge of garden tools.
Shady or full sun area / Prepare for work to be accomplished in full sun.
Access to restroom facilities / No facility on site.

How often do volunteers need to work on site? / One time.
Tools and equipment provided / Gloves, garbage bags, and shovels.
Tools volunteers can bring if desired / Any special maintenance tools must be approved by Volunteer Coordinator or on-site supervisor.
Personal items to bring / Sunscreen, hat, insect repellent, closed-toe shoes, gloves, water and/or snack, cell phone. Closed-toe shoes are required. Volunteers who do not wear appropriate footwear will be turned away. Long-sleeved shirt and long pants are recommended.
Personal Protective Equipment will be provided as needed / We will provide personal protective equipment as needed and instruct in proper use.
Project Start Date / December 9, 2017.
Project Completion Deadline / December 9, 2017.
Duration of program / Four hours.
Volunteer Application Deadline / Please call the Volunteer Coordinator to participate or show up on site on 12/9/17. Volunteers are required to bring a signed Workday Volunteer Application or fill one out on site the day of the project before participating.
Orientation/Training / Volunteers must attend an initial training, which will take place on the workday.
Restrictions / Pets are not allowed.
Extra comments / Looking for volunteers who enjoy nature with an interest in working outdoors to help keep our Natural Area Sites clean and free of invasive plants. This is also a good opportunity for students who are enrolled in ecology or environmental science classes.
