Reappointment of Chair to National Museums Scotland Board
Cabinet Secretary for Culture, Europe and External AffairsFiona Hyslop today announced the reappointment of the Chair ofthe National Museums Scotland Board, Bruce Minto OBE.
Ms Hyslop said:
“I am very pleased that Bruce Minto has agreed to remain as Chair of National Museums Scotland for another 4-year term. Bruce has given a considerable amount of time and personal energy to the work of NMS over the past four years, overseeing and steering the organisation’s continued transformation with record numbers of visitors. He has been instrumental in NMS continuing to inspire people with its collections, and to enhance those experiences with significant investment across its estate.
His strategic and financial acumen will continue to be invaluable to the work of the board. I am very pleased that the NMS Board of Trustees is able to retain his leadership over the next 4 years.”
Chair
Bruce Minto co-founded law firm Dickson Minto in 1985, where he is Managing Partner. He was Chairman of the Stewart Ivory Foundation which was established to encourage, promote and develop financial education in Scotland.
Bruce became Chairman of the Board of Trustees of National Museums Scotland in August 2012 and his current term of appointment runs until July 2016. He lives in Edinburgh.
Bruce was awarded an OBE in the 2015 New Year Honours List for services to Culture.
Thereappointment will be for four years and run from 1 August 2016 to 31July 2020. This appointment is part-time and attracts no remuneration for a time commitment of ten days per year.
Political Activity
All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public. Bruce Minto has not undertaken any political activity in the last five years. He does not hold any other Ministerial Appointments.
