RE:Forum Meeting—January 16, 2008

The next meeting of the WRIA 9 Watershed Forum is Wednesday, January 16, from 2:30 to 4:25 p.m., TukwilaCommunity Center. This is a DECISION meeting, therefore, a QUORUM is necessary. Please indicate your attendance to Linda Grob at or 206-296-8016 by Monday, January 14th.

The agenda and the summary of the November 14, 2007 Forum meeting are attached.

The meeting will include the convening of the Duwamish-Green Ecosystem Restoration Project Executive Committee from 4:00 to 4:25 p.m. Colonel Michael McCormick of the Army Corps of Engineers will join the Forum members and co-chair the Executive Committee meeting to endorse the federal funding of two ERP construction projects for 2008, including North Winds’ Weir—a huge milestone for WRIA 9!!Please see the attached funding recommendation.

Another momentous occasion for WRIA 9 is the selection of new leadership for 2008. Our long-time Chair, former Mayor Steve Mullet of Tukwila, is ready to hand leadership responsibilities to Mayor Joan McGilton of Burien (proposed Chair) and Councilmember Tim Clark of Kent (proposed Vice-Chair). Burien is also proposed to replace Tukwila as a member of the Management Committee to accommodate Mayor McGilton’s chairmanship of the Forum and Management Committee.

Attached is a draft report of the Multiple Watershed Assembly that was held last December. Please review the report; for those who attended the Assembly, please come to the meeting prepared to let me know if there’s any suggested changes based on your interpretation of results. I’d like for the Forum to endorse the Assembly report and provide direction on its priorities for multiple watershed collaboration.

Dennis Robertson, Councilmember, City of Tukwila and Tukwila’s representative to the Steering Committee, is joining the Forum to brief members on the work of an ad-hoc committee on funding, a committee that Councilmember Robertson is chairing. His discussion with members will track well with the discussion of multiple watershed collaboration because funding is one of the issues identified by all the watersheds as a possible cross watershed collaboration effort.

I will provide a brief report on the activities and recent developments of the Puget Sound Partnership.

I look forward to seeing you. Please let me know if you have any questions at 206-296-8069 or .

Please remember to confirm your attendance with Linda Grob (see contact information above).
