Bridgeport Biodiesel - Job Description and Responsibilities

POSITION:Plant operator and Assistant Plant operator

LOCATION:Bridgeport, CT

HOURS & COMPENSATION:$15 - $18 BOE

WHAT WE DO:

We are a green energy company and part of the Tri-State Biodiesel family of companies. Tri State Biodiesel is a social enterprise dedicated to creating a more just and sustainable world by providing a carbon neutral alternative to petroleum diesel. Founded by environmentalists and entrepreneurs, Tri-State Biodiesel provides clean, renewable Biodiesel fuel made from recycled cooking oil to the entire Tri-State region including New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

JOB DUTIES: Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Unloading and loading of liquid materials
  • Operation of all plant equipment
  • Monitoring of all process operating parameters and utility infrastructure operations (i.e. boiler/heat transfer, chiller, chemical batching, stocking, pumping/valving/ etc.)
  • Monitoring & operation of computerized plant control system
  • Daily evaluation of equipment for proper operations/problems
  • Preventive maintenance & minor repairs. Coordinate major repairs & upgrades
  • Troubleshooting of processing problems & taking appropriate corrective action
  • Assists compliance with all environmental, health and safety policies and objectives
  • Assists with reporting process data to management

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Experience and skills preferred but not required as training will also be provided:

  • Experience in a chemical/liquid processing plant environment. (biofuels or petro-chemical preferred)
  • Experience with pumps and other operating equipment and performing maintenance & repairs
  • Understanding of basic OSHA and safety protocols and procedures
  • Meticulous attention to detail with work habits and paperwork
  • Able to communicate effectively and professionally with company personnel
  • Able to communicate with outside vendors, customers and contractors
  • Able to make routine decisions within a predetermined span of authority
  • Able to exercise prudent judgment prior to consultation with supervisor
  • Must have a strong, lead-by-example, hands-on work ethic

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Exposure to heights, noise, and areas with hazardous chemicals
  • Must be able to work while wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required
  • Must be able to work all shifts/schedules as needed
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations and to handle competing demands with flexibility
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb stairs/ladders, kneel, stoop, sit & walk extensively
