UCCSA ROLL OF HONOUR
It is with deep appreciation that the Table View United Church and Peninsula Regional Council submits the name of BARRY GORDON BROWN for acceptance on the UCCSA Roll of Honour.
Barry was appointed as the Honorary Secretary of the Peninsula Regional Council in May 1987 and has served the Region in that capacity to date. In this period he has served under the following Regional Council Chairpersons, Rev. Wilfred Abrahams (twice), and Mr. Ivan Brown (twice), Rev. Roy Brink, Mrs. Merle Bergins and Mr. Mervin Merrington and in this period the number of Churches in the Region has grown from 26 to 42. Thus his workload has increased accordingly. He served as Regional Treasurer as well as Regional Secretary for a two year period. Fortunately Barry had started to develop his computer skills from the beginning which has greatly assisted with the work load.
In all this period Barry has had a desire to make administrative duties and Council meeting work more productive and user-friendly and to utilize his administrative role to improve communication with the timely and accurate issue of information. One of his dreams is for that day when each
Congregation has improved electronic communication resources. Barry retired from business in 2001 and has been able to put all his time into the secretarial side of the region.
He also faithfully represented the Region on the UCCSA and SA Synod Ministerial and Finance Committees.
The above brief information does not ever fully portray the many hours of diligent and dedicated input that has been demanded of Barry in his role as Honorary Secretary and many have been grateful recipients of his wise council and advice through the many varied aspects of his administrative knowledge. His dedication to the ongoing life and development of the
Congregational Church expresses the use of his spiritual gifts of administration
(1 Corinthians 12 verse 28), faithfulness (1 Corinthians 4 verse 2) and service (Romans 12 verse 7). Such consistent diligence and integrity over all these years has been a hallmark of his service to the Kingdom of God.
Barry would also gratefully acknowledge the faithful and dedicated, unstinting support of his wife Carol and he is deeply appreciative for all that she has encouraged and helped him with over all these years.
Barry and Carol have also faithfully supported their local Congregation at East Claremont Congregational Church for many years and are now worshipping at Table View United Church
The Table View United Church and Peninsula Regional Council fully supports his inclusion in the UCCSA Roll of Honour.
