BRAXTON COUNTY
BOARD OF EDUCATION
January 7, 2016
The Braxton County Board of Education met in a regular session on Thursday, January 7,
2016, at 8 a.m. at the Board office. The followingmembers were present:
Kathy Parker, President(via phone)

Elizabeth Stewart
Dave Hoover called the meeting to order at 8:06 a.m.
Dave Hoover had a non-denominational prayer.
There were no delegations, public concerns or discussions.
Principal Andrew Wood of Burnsville Elementary gave the LSIC presentation for Burnsville
Elementary highlighting the positive influence that the LSIC has on the day-to-day operations at
the school.
Tony Minney showed a presentation that BCHS students put together for the “Banner Live”
that showcased students and activities at the school. A wonderful video of the beauty of the
campus, classes in session and students telling why they love being a part of Braxton County
High School was shown.
Van Carrmoved and Elizabeth Stewartseconded to approve the consent agenda items (Approval of December 16, 2015 Meeting Minutes, payment of bills, budget transfers and supplements, transportation requests).
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Kathy Parker moved and Jimmy Huffman seconded to approve the following employment/
reassignments – Professional:
1. Janice Hughes – Elementary Interventionist effective retroactive January 4, 2016
2. Janice Hughes – Substitute Teacher effective January 8, 2016
3. James B. King – Substitute Teacher effective January 8, 2016
4. Amy Gregory – 21st Century Project Math Tutor/STEM Instructor at BCMS effective
retroactive January 4, 2016
5. Ryan Singleton – 21st Century Visual Arts Instructor at BCMS effective retroactive January
4, 2016
6. Kayla Lynn – 21st Century Performing Arts Teacher at BCMS effective retroactive January
4, 2016
7. Alessandra Bonazzo – Social Studies Teacher at BCHS effective pending certification

Elizabeth Stewart moved and Jimmy Huffman seconded to approve the following
determinations of funding date:
1. Carol Young – 21st Century Site Coordinator at BCMS effective retroactive January 4, 2016
2. Lori Dittman – 21st Century Homework Help Teacher at BCMS effective retroactive
January 4, 2016.
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Jimmy Huffman moved and Van Carr seconded to approve the following employment/
reassignments – Service:
1. Heather Thayer – Substitute Supervisory/Instructional/Transportation Aide effective
January 8, 2016
2. Jessica Cutlip – Substitute Supervisory/Instructional/Transportation Aide effective
January 8, 2016
3. Deanna Nottingham – Long-Term Substitute Bus Operator (Marcy Westfall’s Run)
effective January 8, 2016 until regular employee returns.
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Van Carr moved and Kathy Parker seconded to approve the following Leave of Absence –
Service:
Marcy Westfall – Bus Operator effective retroactive November 10, 2015 until released by
Physician.
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Elizabeth Stewart movedto convene into executive session under 6-9A-4 (2)(A) for personnel
Student, and legal matters. Van Carr seconded the motion.
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
The board convened into executive session 8:47 a.m.
Van Carrmoved to reconvene into regular session. Kathy Parker seconded the motion. Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
The board reconvened into regular session at 9:21 a.m.
Van Carr moved and Jimmy Huffman seconded to approve the following leave of absence –
Professional:
Suzanne Wine – LD/BD/MI/AU/Gifted Teacher at Flatwoods Elementary effective January
13, 2016 until released by physician.
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Kathy Parker moved and Elizabeth Stewart seconded to deny the following leave of
absence – Professional:
Michael Cool – Physical Education Teacher at Little Birch Elementary for second semester
to pursue degree in Athletic Coaching.
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Elizabeth Stewart moved and Jimmy Huffman seconded to approve the following Ratification
of Administrative Leave without Pay:
Linda Williams – 6th Grade Teacher at Little Birch Elementary effective retroactive December
16, 2015 through January 8, 2016.
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Van Carr moved and Jimmy Huffman seconded to approve the following resignation –
Professional:
Rhonda Hunt – Interventionist and Substitute Teacher effective retroactive January 4, 2016.
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Jimmy Huffman moved and Kathy Parker seconded to approve the following extracurricular
assignment:
Rebecca Oates – Volleyball Coach at BCMS effective January 8, 2016.
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
The Report on County Board Performance Assessment was tabled.
Elizabeth Stewart moved and Van Carr seconded to approve fundraisers for BCHS.
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Jimmy Huffman moved and Van Carr seconded to approve the third and final reading of
Policy 4118 Grading Policy for BCHS.
Vote: 4-1 with Kathy Parker against. Motion carried.
Kathy Parker moved and Elizabeth Stewart seconded the third and final reading of Policy
3608 Time Away From Work Days (TAW).
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Kathy Parker moved and Elizabeth Stewart seconded the first reading of Policy 1951.
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Jimmy Huffman moved and Elizabeth Stewart seconded to accept the Mutual agreement
with Sandra Burchett per Grievance Board Mediation.
Vote: 4-1 with Van Carr against. Motion carried.
Kathy Parker moved and Van Carr seconded to adjourn. Vote: Unanimous
The meeting adjourned at 9:30 a.m.
The next meeting of the Braxton County Board of Education will be held on
Wednesday,January 27, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. in the Board office at 98 Carter Braxton Drive,
