ASSIST News Service

ASSIST Ministries is an international ministry started in 1988 by journalist and author, Dan Wooding, and his wife Norma, as a way to help Christians living under difficult circumstances, and to share the Gospel with those who do not know Christ.

Two articles regarding ORALITY

--Orality: Changing the Face of Missions around the World - “Immediately he received his sight and started following Jesus”, Scripture says, of the blind beggar known as Bartimaeus (which means son of Timaeus), as recorded in Mark chapter 10.

--Jesus Wells Solve Village Leader’s Problems - Poojan Manasi had many ideas for developing the village he lived in. As the village chief, he was in charge of solving all the problems in his area, so he set out to tackle each issue starting with the village’s lack of clean water.

JAPAN IN CRISIS. As we have reached the one-year anniversary of the triple disaster that overtook unsuspecting Japan, it seems fitting and proper to pause a moment and voice a prayer for the more than 16,000 lives that have been confirmed as lost and the more than 3,000 lives that are not yet accounted for. At the same time, perhaps it would be appropriate to remember a life that was spared. Kenji...See More

ENGAGING CHURCHES - SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA. First Baptist Church of Kennesaw, Ga., asks prayer for safety and boldness for their teams working among their people group in Senegal.

AEGEAN TURKS OF TURKEY (uh-JEE-an). “Over a period of a few weeks before Christmas, I had the opportunity to share the story of the Bible (Creation to Christ) with my friend. She’s a college-age young woman who lost her father when she was young and takes her responsibility of helping to provide for her family very seriously. After discussing how Jesus fulfills God’s promise throughout Scripture to send a Savior, we agreed to begin reading the Book of John together. What better way to continue studying the life of Jesus than to read the book that begins with an entire passage describing Him as the One who became flesh to dwell among us! As we read, she began to make connections between the passage in John and the stories we had already read together. She said that she knew Jesus came, knowing He would die. We ended up reading four chapters, and if she hadn’t had to go to work, she probably would have continued to read as long as we were willing to read. She said multiple times that she understood so much better when we read together than when she read on her own. Please pray that the Father will continue to give us opportunities to read with her, to give her understanding as we read together and as she reads alone, and to help her see that Jesus--the Lamb of God, the Word made flesh, the One who dwelt among men to fulfill God’s promise--wants a relationship with her.”

SOKOTO FULANI OF NIGER (SOH-koh-toh fu-LAH-nee). During this month of March, there is much excitement among the Sokoto Fulani Team as they work to implement new ways of abundant Gospel sowing in Niger. Field personnel are beginning to produce a radio broadcast in Fulfulde, the heart language of the Fulani. The broadcast will consist of chronological Bible storying by national Fulfulde speakers. They hope to reach a wide area of Fulani villages and to allow more exposure for the Gospel message as people hear it in their specific language. Please lift up the field personal who are undertaking this new and unfamiliar task, asking that they will have patience in the process and that the Truth of these recordings will reach many Fulani.

EAST ASIAN UNENGAGED PEOPLES. Please ask God for 20 unengaged western China cities to be adopted in prayer by American churches by the end of 2012.

LAST FRONTIER. Many seeds have been planted in difficult soil. Out of 24 people who heard the Gospel over the span of one year, more than half have believed. Remember in prayer these new creations in Christ and ask that they will persist in believing and grow to greater maturity. Also pray that the rest who heard will soon come to believe in Him. All of these are Last Frontier people living in great oppression.

ENGAGING CHURCHES - SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA. “Thank you for praying for the Mbalantu people and our volunteers from the Bi-Fork Baptist Association in Texas! Two of us were able to journey to Namibia in February and work with our two Mbalantu churches. These small groups are continuing to minister and grow, with one preparing to have a baptismal service. They are also working hard to gain all that is needed to register as a church with the government. Praise God, who has richly blessed our groups, the ministry, and our churches. We are so grateful for the prayers of the saints!”
