Role Overview:
The role of Communication staff in CSIRO is to support the delivery of science and innovation through the provision of effective communication, either within or outside CSIRO, to enhance CSIRO's brand and promote its capabilities.
The Communication Advisor will be tasked with utilising communications expertise and relevant domain knowledge to implement a range of activities for the Information Management and Technology (IMT) team, focused on delivering IMT’s strategy for CSIRO.
The position will be focussed on the IMT team and report to the Executive Manager of the Digital, National Facilities and Collections (DNFC) communication team. The role will deliver internal communication, blogs and other written materials, assist with change management activities, work with IMT service owners to create and manage an internal online presence, draft internal communication strategiesand related materials, and help organise conferences and events.
Duties and Key Result Areas:
- Establish and maintain relationships with IMT service owners and teams, and other key stakeholders, to deliver effective comms activities and fulfil IMT’s strategic goals
- Develop user-focused content for IMT services
- Contribute to the implementation of IMT strategy and help align communication plans and activities with CSIRO-wide strategy implementation
- Lead small projects to deliver campaigns, influence and negotiate with stakeholders,and collaborate to deliver impact
- Understand and implement communication policies and plans to deliver communicationand marketing expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Media production
- Professional writing (journalism, speech writing, copywriting)
- Employee engagement and stakeholder engagement
- Digital communication
- Brand management
- Event management
- Change management
- Demonstrate a flexible, adaptive and responsive approach to delivering communication activities with the DNFC communication team and CSIRO’s wider CSIRO communication team
- Deliver effective communication outcomes using sound judgment and applying contemporary communication and marketing skills
- Generate improved solutions in work situations, trying creative ways to adapt to and deal with problems and opportunities.
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with all staff, clients and suppliers in the interests of good business practice, collaboration and enhancement of CSIRO’s reputation.
- Promote a strong safety culture by adhering to the spirit and practice of CSIRO’s Values, Health, Safety and Environment plans and policies, Diversity initiatives and Zero Harm (physical and psychological) goals.

Selection Criteria:

Pre-Requisites:
1.Education/Qualifications: A Certificate or tertiary qualification in a relevant area, such asCommunications and/or relevant work experience.
2.Communication: The ability to clearly convey information and ideas, adapted to others needs and priorities, and establish effective interpersonal relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
3.Behaviours: A history of professional and respectful behaviours and attitudes in a collaborative environment.
4.Adaptability: Demonstrated ability to deal with ambiguity, adapting to changing circumstances and new responsibilities and maintain professionalism and flexibility.
5.Problem Solving: Proven ability to investigate underlying issues of complex and ill-defined problems and develop appropriate responses through abstract thinking and using creative solutions.
Essential Criteria:
1.Demonstrated ability to communicate complex data – such as IMT service information - into consumer-friendly materials, including developing intranet pages, user communications and change management activities
2.Demonstrated experience developing communication and/or marketing plans, and the ability to project manage events with experience in areas such as professional writing, employee engagement, change management, brand management and media production
3.Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and operate well in an often complex, ambiguous and fast moving environment to achieve key objectives
4.Initiative and flexibility to contribute to a variety of communication and marketing channels and outputs across different areas of the IMT business unit and the wider CSIRO communication function
5.Demonstrated understanding and experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Media production
- Professional writing (journalism, speech writing, copywriting)
- Digital communication
- Brand management
- Employee and stakeholder engagement
- Event management
- Change management
