Course Description
The World History class is a ten unit, one year course required for high school graduation. The course is based on the California Department of Education Social Studies Framework and Standards, which emphasize Twentieth Century World History.

Grading Policy:
30% Standards Assessment (Standardized tests and quizzes)
15% Writing (quick writes and essays)
10% Final
35% Alternative Assessment (Notebooks, class work, homework, projects, etc…)
10% Participation/Attendance (Daily warm-ups, preparedness)
Materials needed Daily:
1. Two pencils, a blue/black ink pen
2. Notebook and notebook paper to be used only in this class.
3. Red, Green, & Yellow colored pencils/highlighters

Electronic Devices and Skateboards:
Parents will be notified if their students are repeatedly using their electronic devices during classroom instruction. These items will be confiscated in the classroom if improvement is not achieved. Cell phones, MP3 players, and other devices will be sent to the administration where a parent may retrieve the item. Skateboards must be stored during the school day and cannot be ridden on campus. Parents if you need to contact your child or if there is an emergency please call the school at (951)765-1600.
Attendance:
Consistent attendance is vital for learning to take place. After ten (10) absences California Ed Code states that the student may receive an F for the semester. Parents please schedule doctor and dental appointments after school hours and schedule family vacation to coincide with school breaks. If a student must be absent, please make sure that you have called or written the attendance office to clear the absence. It is the student’s responsibility to obtain copies of any and all assignments missed due to an absence. Missed tests may be retaken within one week upon return from the absence. Failure to make up a missed test will result in a grade of “zero” or ‘F’
Bathroom Policy:
Students are expected to responsibly use the restroom before or after class. However, there is a restroom pass for the class that will be used at the teacher’s discretion. Misuse of the bathroom policy will result in a complete loss of this privilege during class. Exceptions will be made for medical reasons.
Late Work/Make-Up Work:
Students are responsible for all of the work done in the classroom every day regardless of absences for any reason. The district policy for make-up work is two days for each day of absence. Work can only be made up for full credit for excused absences. In my class, students are limited to 3 late assignments per semester. Late work will be marked down for a maximum grade of 75% or “C.”
Cheating:
Students caught cheating will be immediately be given a “zero” on that assignment. According to California Ed Code, students caught cheating a second time will receive an F for the semester.
Consequences for Tardiness
Students are expected to come to class on time and fully prepared to learn. Tardiness will be tracked on a semester basis.
1st Tardy– Forgiven
2nd – Documented Verbal Warning
3rd – Parent Phone Call
4th and more – Lunch Detention
Consequences for not following behavior guidelines:
Student behaviors that result in defiance or disrespect will be subject to the following consequences. Serious infractions, such as, harassment or violence will begin after level 1 depending on the severity. Students will be allowed one tardy per semester before being subject to the items on this list.
Level 1 – Documented Verbal Warning, Seat Changes
Level 2 – Parent Contact via phone
Level 3 – Afterschool Detention
Level 4 – Individual Counseling, Parent/Teacher Conference
Level 5 – Admin Referral, behavior contract, On Campus Suspensions
