One Team, One Goal: Celebrating Diversity, 2014 Competition Winners

What was your inspiration?

Tyalla:

I saw on the internet, two hands shaping a heart and I liked the idea of two hands coming together. So I decided to do that sort of idea but to have them different colours to show that we’re a team. There’s the AFL and with the people in the background coming together to celebrate the occasion.

Samantha:

It was inspired by the innocence of children because children don’t care about your race or religion they just care about the fact that you’re a person. So whenever I think of children I think of them holding hands. So I incorporated that into the design and either hand is a different colour to show different races. I was looking through past logos for heaps of different sports because I had to do it for a school project so I had to do a lot of background work to come up with it. So a lot of research to get the final product.

What does diversity mean at your school?

Tyalla:

At our school diversity is treating everyone the same with the same respect regardless of their skin colour or where they come from.

Samantha:

Our school has a lot of people from different cultures; whether it be from Asia or anywhere in Africa and all over Australia and we have things like LOTE week and we have different multicultural things at schools like the football team where people from different cultures come together and play football against other schools.

What was the reaction at your school?

Tyalla:

We announced it at assembly and I had a few people come up after: “Did you really win? Did you really win?” And I was like, “Yeah”.

Samantha:

The school’s really happy about it. It gives the school a lot of publicity, so it’s really good for them.

What team do you barrack for?

Tyalla:

I go for the Bulldogs because our cousins go for the Bulldogs and it was an opportunity that we could go to the football and support the same team.

Samantha:

Western Bulldogs. My whole family goes for them and always have so I go for them as well.
