YOU PROJECT: A Study of the Source
This project is about you! By sorting out the feelings and ideas that are an important part of your life, you will better understand who you are now, and simultaneously give me a chance to know you better. Also, this project will give me an idea of your writing abilities. Finally, this is also a project in following directions (which will be an important part of the class throughout the year), so be sure to read them carefully. You will be graded on your ability to follow directions as well as your creativity, writing skills, and effort.
Cover: Include a creatively worded title to your presentation.
Part 1: Attach a baby picture. Beneath the picture, write one paragraph that begins with, “As a child, I was well known for…” Focus on one specific feature of your childhood.
Add a picture of your immediate family and a short sentence about each member.
Add a picture of the current “you” and give details about your height, weight, favorite items, a quote from a friend, a quote from a family member, and a quote from a teacher/coach/instructor.
Part 2: Complete a Clothesline/Timeline graphic organizer following the
directions as they appear on the graphic organizer. (You may use more than one slide for this section.
Part 3: Complete a character Trait Web graphic organizer following the directions as they appear on the graphic organizer. (Once again, you may use more than one slide for this section.
Part 4: Divide this slide into 6 sections. Using one picture for each section, from magazines, clip-art, pictures from the Internet, or sketches, identify your favorite color, food, hobby, school subject, kind of entertainment, and favorite celebrity.
Part 5: Creatively decorate this slide to fit a paragraph you have written describing your pet peeve (one thing that annoys you very much).
Part 6:Find or draw a picture that illustrates how you see yourself in the future. Write a paragraph describing the person you hope to become.
Good luck! This is your first major writing project for Eighth Grade Language Arts. Enjoy preparing this composite of yourself.
Project due when your class meets on September 17.
