YOUNG PROFESSIONAL BOARD

The Urban Justice Center'sYoung Professional Board (YPB)is an initiative geared toward young professionals who are looking to better assist the Urban Justice Center. The purpose of the YPB are to increase awareness and support for UJC’s anti-poverty legal projects. YPB members volunteer their time and expertise to UJC through outreach, fundraising, event planning, and strategic support. The YPB creates an exciting environment where young professionals can deepen their understanding of community issues, become involved with more professional development opportunities, gain governance experience, and have a greater network of peers interested in social justice and civic responsibility.

YPB Member SNAPSHOT:

·  Plan two fundraisers a year

·  Assist with the UJC’s annual appeal direct mailer

·  Recruit new members to the YPB

·  Strive to Recruit at least 5 “Young Professional Advocates” or other donors

·  Collectively raise $35,000 through Night Out and convert 10 percent of attendees to individual donors via a year-end campaign

·  Each member of the YPB will strive to raise $1,500 (through his/her own donations or solicitations of other donors)

·  Attend YPB Board Meetings, the Annual Young Professional Meeting, & Night Out Event

·  Pay annual dues of $250 (which includes a ticket to Night Out and counts toward your individual fundraising goal)

·  Volunteer opportunistically for the UJC and its projects

·  Will engage with the Board of Directors. A yearly Board of Directors/YPB event will be convened to further facilitate interaction

·  Host the Annual Young Professional Meeting which includes YPA to further discussion amongst the groups and interest YPA in becoming a YPB member in the future

·  Serve on an organizing Sub-Committee (detailed below)

o  Night Out

§  The Night Out subcommittee will help to plan the Urban Justice Center’s summer fundraiser, A Night Out on the City with UJC. Night Out takes place in early / mid June, and this committee will meet regularly in the three months leading up to that date. Duties include helping to plan food and beverage, solicit sponsorships and donations, publicity, and ticket sales. All YPB members are given one free ticket to the Night Out.

o  Year End Appeal

§  The Year End Appeal subcommittee will help UJC’s development office put out our annual solicitation and report. The annual report generally goes out around Thanksgiving weekend, and this committee will be active in the two months leading up to that time, including two in-person meetings. Duties include advising on layout, content, and look, and providing lists of contacts to whom to send the appeal.

o  Recruitment

§  The recruitment subcommittee will help raise awareness of the Urban Justice Center generally, as well as recruit members directly to the YPB. This subcommittee will be active all-year round, and members should expect to meet in person quarterly. Duties will include disseminating information about UJC via social media, acting as a public face for the YPB, and organizing low-key personal events for potential recruits and interested supporters.

o  Development

§  The Development subcommittee will support Vice Chair in compiling annual UJC YPB report. Assist in planning additional small fundraising events and coordinate Year End Appeal

o  Volunteering

§  The volunteering subcommittee will coordinate and source volunteer opportunities with UJC projects. Work with Doug and project leaders to build awareness of volunteer availability. Track board member’s skill sets and experience and match with specific needs of projects.

o  Other

§  The YPB, as a recently formed body, is still in the process of being defined by its members. YPB members are encouraged to explore additional areas where they can provide strategic support to the UJC and its projects and to form additional subcommittees to plan, execute and expand that work.

·  Act as an advocate or ambassador for UJC

·  ***Members are asked to make a minimum one-year commitment

o  YPB members can expect to spend 2-6 hours per month on projects in addition to attending meetings and events

YOUNG PROFESSIONAL ADVOCATE

The Urban Justice Center'sYoung Professional Advocates (YPA)are individuals who might not have the time to be as involved as Young Professional Board members but who have still indicated a strong commitment to the UJC. These individuals will act as advocates and ambassadors for the UJC as well as attend the Annual Young Professional Meeting. YPA members must also raise an additional $100 through his/her own donations or solicitation of other donors.

YPA SNAPSHOT:

·  Act as an advocate/ ambassador for UJC

·  Active in community with strong peer network, eager to fundraise in social professional circles

·  Attend Annual Young Professional Meeting

·  Buy one ticket to Night Out and raise an additional $100 through his/her own donations or solicitation of other donors

·  *** YPA members can expect to spend 1-2 hours per week in the two weeks prior to an event, in addition to attending at least one general meeting per year
