VACANCIES FOR TEACHER MENTORS AT RESIDENTIAL SALTERS’ CHEMISTRY CAMPS

Programme Date: July 11 – 13, 2016

The Camps run for 3 days and 2 nights with students experiencing…

·  Hands-on practical Chemistry in University labs

·  Interaction with researchers

·  Exciting chemical demonstrations

·  A taster of life staying in University hostels

·  The chance to meet like-minded students

·  Camp activities delivered in local languages in addition to English

We are looking for teachers with…

·  A degree in the chemical sciences or an equivalent qualification

·  Evidence of working with schools and teachers, ideally with a teaching qualification

·  Demonstrated enthusiasm for science education in general and chemical science in particular

·  Open to learning and implementing new teaching methods and using new technologies

·  Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Assamese

·  Good laboratory skills and the ability to assist students in the practical chemistry laboratory activities as detailed in the project resource

We expect teachers to…

·  Supervise the students throughout the Camp, also staying overnight with students in Hostel accommodation

·  Assist the University staff with delivery of the Camps day and evening activities

·  Agree to one/half day basic training before the Camp

What the teachers can expect to achieve…

·  Helping to inspire students

·  A certificate from the Salters’ Institute and the Royal Society of Chemistry

·  The opportunity to learn new topics in Chemistry

·  An honorarium of Rs 20,000 for entire Camp duration
