Math 103 – Daily Work

This document will be available in my website. It will be updated after each class so you know what we did in class and what you have to do for the next class

Wednesday January 23

We covered some topics of sections 1.1, 1.2, & 1.3 – do the suggested homework and complete all handouts that have not been finished in class

In order to study math, besides reading the book and the examples you have to practice, practice, and practice! The more problems you do, the more you learn and the more you get to ENJOY MATH. Try to put at least two hours PER DAY in your Math homework.

For next class

- Print: Record of attendance to tutoring/activities

- Print: Grade Record form

- If you are going to use MathXL explore the documents which are available in my website and register. Start working on the problems ASAP. If you need help you have to come to my office.

If you have used it before, you can register for my class. The code can be used for two semesters

- Go to the Study Guides/Worksheets/Cumulative Reviews link and print all materials that you have not been given in class

- Place ALL MATERIALS IN A 3 RING BINDER

- Print the Final Exam Review and start solving as soon as the material is covered in class. This will help you at the end of the semester

- Go to Professor Katiraie’s website, get into his Math 103 class materials’ and print the handouts on

- Relations- Algebra Reviews 1, 2, & 3

Start working on this material – It is review from your Math 091 class and you have to know this material!!!

Friday January 25

- We finished chapter 1 and worked on the following handouts

-Section 1.3 by Professor Riseberg

-Sections 1.4, 1.5 handout

- For next class study all of chapter 1 – Do the homework listed on your syllabus and complete all the handouts from chapter 1

- Notice: Solutions to the handouts on 1.1-1.3, and 1.4, 1.5 are posted in Professor’s Katiraie’s website

- Print Cumulative 1 and Cumulative 2 which are in the Cumulative Reviews link of my website

- Cumulative 1 is due on January 28

Monday January 28

- Group quiz on chapter 1

- We covered sections 2.1

- For next class: complete Cumulative Review 2, and do homework on sections 2.1

- First individual quiz of the semester is on Wednesday – It will be similar to the one posted in Professor’s K’s website (all of chapter 1, and section 2.1)

- If you did not bring Cumulative 1 on Monday 1/28, bring it on Wednesday 1/30

Wednesday January 30

- We reviewed old material

- We covered section 2.2 (do HWK from the book for this section – If you are using MATHXL do book problems also). Keep reviewing old material to keep it fresh !!!!!

- If you are going to participate in the COMPETITION, print the handouts and start solving those problems to get ready

- QUIZ NEXT CLASS: same quiz as Professor Katiraie’s from last semester. Check his solution in his website.

Friday February 1

- We reviewed old material

- We did quiz 1

Monday February 4

- We reviewed old material

- We covered section 2.4 (do HWK from the book for this section – If you are using MATHXL do book problems also). Keep reviewing old material to keep it fresh !!!!!

- QUIZ: Problem 1: interpreting the slope as a rate of change (Remember: (describing y with words)

------is increasing/decreasing at a rate of ------(units of y) per (units of x)

Problem 2: Write the equation of a line going through P1(3, -7) and P2( -8,4)

Wednesday February 6

- We reviewed old material

- We had a short quiz on the two problems as announced on Monday

- We are done with chapters 1 and 2, keep reviewing them

- Practice a few problems from section 3.1 (1-46)

- Review again problem 77 on page 156 and do problem 78 on the same page

- PRINT the 3.1 HOUT from my website and solve problems 9 and 10

- FIRST COMPETITION: February 8th 2:30 pm in SE 226

- WEEKLY REVIEWS: Tuesdays 3:25-4:20 in SE 226, and Thursdays 3 to 4 in SE 208

- Start studying for a long 40-minute quiz on Monday February 11 on sections 2.1 through 2.4 and 3.1

Friday February 8

- We reviewed old material

- We finished all of chapter 2, 3.1, and 3.2 (1-36, 41, and 42) –DO HWK on this material

- MONDAY we’ll have a quiz on all of chapter 2 and 3.1 (40 minutes quiz – long and juicy!!!)

Monday February 11

- We had a long quiz

Wednesday February 13

- Finish with 4.1, 4.2 – do HWK from the book

- Read the COMPETITION page in my website – It has the announcement of the content for the second competition which is on 2/29 – STUDY and COME – IT’S FUN TO LEARN MATH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

- Print the TOPICS FOR EXAM 1 in the Study Guides link

Friday February 15

- Professor Katiraie has a practice test on his website – Print it and bring it to the math club tutoring session this afternoon!!!! (MY test may not be exactly the same, but most of the topics will be the same)

-Study the topics listed in the HOUT that I gave you in class

- We had a quiz at the end of the class on those sections

COME TO COMPETITION 2 – this Friday at 2 pm – See my website for the topics covered in this test

- We covered section 5.3 and the beginning of 5.4 – factoring trinomials of the form x^2 + bx + c

- There is a Study guide for exam 2 in my website TOPICS FOR EXAM 2 – Print it and make sure you know how to do all the types of problems mentioned
