1 / Job Purpose:
To manage and develop the Epilepsy Fieldwork Service in such a way that the highest standard of service is delivered to individuals and families affected by epilepsy, in accordance with contractual requirements
2 / Dimensions: i.e. budget, no of staff, areas of work etc.
STAFF
Supervise and manage the staff team of up to 10 to provide the highest standard of care. Service is delivered from 7 different project sites based in Highland, Moray, Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire, Tayside and Fife.
Ensure the equitable and appropriate distribution /delegation of duties among staff and the economical deployment of staff within the project at all times.
Provide support, guidance, supervision and ongoing development for staff, in accordance with organisational policies and procedures
Ensure that staff works within the philosophy, policies and standards of the organisation and the service.
FINANCIAL
Responsible for overall budget management and financial reporting requirements including key performance indicators, annual budget processes and monthly management accounts
3 / Key Objectives and Accountabilities:
In partnership with service users and in accordance with contractual requirements, ensure individual and family needs are identified, effectively and efficiently assessed, interventions are put in place which address identified needs and outcomes are achieved.
Manage the creative development of service provision, maximising the use of technology where appropriate
Manage the provision of an advisory and consultancy service to care managers and key workers in the area, and monitor primary and community care services with the aim of raising standards of health and social care for people with epilepsy.
Manage the provision of a clinical liaison service to identified epilepsy clinics/GP practices.
Ensure the service robustly identifies and addresses child and adult protection concerns, in accordance with local and organisational procedures.
Positively promote the service and Quarriers as an organisation, ensuring that approaches taken are in line with company policy and are coordinated with other services throughout east Scotland.
Maintain, foster and develop strong relationships with external agencies in particular health, social work and local 3rd sector organisations to ensure enrichment of the service and avoidance of duplication.
Ensure that the requirements of the Health & Safety at Work Act are implemented to ensure the safety of children, young people, staff and visitors whilst accessing the service.
Maintain records relating to the various functions of the service as required and ensure a robust approach to evaluation and continuous improvement is consistently implemented
Design and implement regular consultation with existing and current service users to Identify gaps in service provision for individuals and families affected by epilepsy and work with Operational manager, Quarriers Fundraising Department and local partners organisations to identify and access funding opportunities to enhance the range and value of the services delivered.

  • Effectively manage the project within an annual budget, ensuring that project sustains a positive financial position.
  • Promote the professional development of the staff team and monitor staff retention.
  • Provide a high quality service to children, families and adults.
  • Ensure that the project is developed and fit for purpose.
  • To ensure that poor practice is addressed timeously and in line with organisational procedures.

5 / Knowledge, Skills and Experiencenecessary for the role:
This post requires the manager to have or be working towards a relevant management qualificationin Health and Social Care.
Experience in a community health or social care role is required.
A good understanding of relevant good practice in Epilepsy support is desireable.
A working knowledge of legislation relevant to children and young people is essential.
Experience of staff management and supervision is crucial along with the ability to motivate and develop the staff team.
The ability to use negotiation skills in a variety of forums to develop the service to meet the needs of the Local Authorities and service users.
6 / Key Relationships:
  • Direct/matrix reports – Formally meet with the team at staff meetings, supervision and training sessions. Support the staff team on a daily basis to resolve issues as they occur.
  • Senior Internal Stakeholders - Meet with the Operational Manager for the project six weekly for supervision and contact for clarity on issues out with the realms of the Project Managers role as they arise. Attend sector meetings eight weekly and senior staff meetings six monthly. Liaise with relevant Head Office departments when necessary eg – Human Resources, Finance etc.
  • External contacts- Liaison with commissioners and key funders as required.External organisations, social work, health, education etc
